I can't wait to see the crowd go ape **** when the first "3" comes up thinking it's a 1320 run?

I wonder if NHRA's thinking $60 admission's a little high for 1000' racing?

I just read where Jim Head's going to lobby the NCAA to reduce the football fields to 80 Yards! We can't have these 350-400 lb. kids running the length of a 100 yard field now can we, They may have a Heart attack?

Well even if it is my ticket is still bought payed for and in my hand. U know I gotta say I was seriously tweaked when I read it 5 minutes ago, but hey its 320ft less, i mean how much difference is it really gonna make.......im gonna be happy none the less as long as we dont get rain lol!!!! Beside I look forward to this for 364 days cuz I can only make it to one. Imma make the best of it and thoroughly enjoy myself. Good luck and safe racing to all teams next weekend in my home state!!!

So now this begs the question, what happens with points and how they're awarded for National Records? Do they start over with a clean slate effective at Denver so that whomever runs low ET gets 20 bonus points for a new record?

If they stick with the times from the current national records it will be:

Top Fuel 1,000ft-3.759

Funny Car 1,000ft-3.980

It is the NHRA though, who knows what they will do next.

In every other form of racing, when the cars got too fast for the tracks they raced on, they slowed down the cars. That is the only solution I can see. 1000 foot tracks, I'll cast my vote by going to another IRL race or two instead of Memphis or Dallas.

What an aggressive move by NHRA, when I first read this subject, I thought I was in IHRA board, I couldn't believe. it Good point Joe, with 1000' racing, admission to the race should also be adjusted.

The length of the race wasn't the problem. The length of the shutdown area, and a pole and a wall were the problem. Just my opinion.

My opinion too!!!

Safety IS #1 so let's fix the tracks that don't have adequate shut-down areas!!! If the track owners, NHRA, or both can't/won't improve a track's shut-down area enough to deem it "safe", then they should not have a national event.

I fully support the drivers and their safety!!!

I truely hope that this 1000' racing is really an "interim" solution!!!

JMHO/.02 worth :)

Thanks for answering my question Rex/PJ ... I fancy myself a pretty smart dude, but I never actually considered it was actually 640 feet, 320 less acceleration and 320 more slowdown.

Like I said, I am all for safety, but I hope this is a temporary fix for tracks that have shorter shutdown areas. I will still attend Indy and Vegas2, I will still fork over the bucks for the whole weekend. There are many smart drag racing people who think the ADRL 1/8th mile shows are the best thing since sliced bread, so I think 1,000ft will work out OK.

PS don't everyone bail on Vegas yet ... we have a LONG shutdown that is uphill ... many of the fuel cars can use the first turn off at Vegas if they get both chutes out ... there is NO REASON to back 'em up to 1,000ft here. The way I read NHRAs press release was that the length of the fuel races will vary track by track until a permanent solution is found.

exactly Barry.

I would like the people who are so deadset against this to remember one thing: PRO (i.e. the guys/gals who put their lives on the line every race) is 100% behind this. This has little/nothing to do with NHRA, as far as who made the decision. So make sure you let your favorite driver(s) know that they have "killed" drag racing.

The only people in the crowd who'll think it's a 1320 run will be those who've already had too many beers!

I don't know if you've ever watched a race sitting at 1000 feet, but I have. The nitro cars are already hauling serious a$$ at that point.

No need to set up straw man arguments here Joe. Heart attacks are predisposed genetic occurrences. Drag racing deaths aren't.

This decision was made purely by emotion! I've heard some things about the Scott K crash that I've NOT seen written anywhere, and I can tell you a 1000' track wouldn't have made a bit of difference!

Did you ever suppose for a moment that this has been stirring among the drivers/owners for some time, but has only now been taken seriously due to Scott K's accident?

If it's going to be a 1000 feet at Denver then it's a pretty good bet it will be 1000 feet at Seattle the following week. I don't care for the shortened football fields of Arena Football and I certainly can't abide by a shortened track in drag racing. That's it for me. I'll stick to the watching sprint cars racing on dirt tracks from now on. Anybody want tickets to all three days of the Northwest Nationals?

I agree i think i should be getting a 1320ft = $60
1000ft = $45
yeah right i see that happening. They will raise the ticket prices..

That's roughly 1/4 less than what they were running, so the next headline on NHRA.com should be that ticket prices are cut by 25%. I hope this is a temporary fix, but I don't see why they can't run 1320 feet in Las Vegas. It will be interesting to see if they take a hit at the gate over this decision, although I don't think the initial hit will be that bad because many people already purchased tickets and or airfare. I had planned on going to Sonoma, Reading, Charlotte, and Vegas, but now I honestly don't know what I'm going to do. If I didn't already book airfare to Charlotte and Sonoma I wouldn't be going to either of those two.

Oh, I agree, for seeing 30 seconds less nitro cars on Sunday, provided everyone makes full pulls, the NHRA should cut the ticket price by twenty dollars.

(figured at .5 per pass at 30 total passes... wait, I'm wrong, that's 15 seconds total for the day in nitro, ie:not quite four singles)
