Tom Compton MIA? (2 Viewers)

Not to hijack this thread, but wasn't he busted for that DUI in South Central LA, like in Compton or Inglewood, in the early hours of the morning? I thought I remember something like that.

What in the hell was he doing in that part of town, that early in the morning?

Like Herm Edwards said, nothing good happens after midnight.... Especially in South Central Los Angeles!
Watts! Happened in August 2003. http://www.dragracingonline.com/analysis/v8_compton-1.html

Sounds unlucky by getting sideswiped while being over the limit, barly. Thats about the time it was changed from .10-.08,,maybe he was driving thru that town to get where he was going? Im not saying its ok but everybody makes a mistake, right?? Until we all know whats going on "this time" maybe we should just sit back and wait for the races to not start on time on ESPN2 lol.

The secret is the issue. If when he needed to step away for family or health issues they had said something then all would be good. Nobody would begrudge that man taking some time to help his family. Secretly disappearing makes it look like something less sincere then "family issues" and automatically leads to speculation. As is most cases the cover up ends up being more damaging than the original act.
Can you imagine the head of NFL, Ford or Coke going MIA and everything being so secretive about it?

With that said I hope this is one of the rare cases where it really is not as bad as it appears

Seriously ?? A statement was made. Same would hold true in Corporate America. A brief statement about the situation. Details are NOBODY else's business and there is no obligation to ensure the "need to know" crowd is informed.

I would say comparing Tom Compton's disappearance to the disappearance of the heads of the NFL, Ford Motor Co, and Coca Cola would be a little like comparing Babe Ruth to Bob Uecker.

The problem is that the "statement" didn't come out until after DRO reported about him not being seen for the past 45-60 days. This was just a CYA move by NHRA after the rumors really got swirling.

When does it not happen after the fact? Isn't that what public relations people are for? People rarely come out with a preemptive statement.

A statement was made only after people got tired of not having an answer from the missing boss and more and more questions were being asked. Media reports were coming out asking questions and making his absence public which forced them to say something.

When you wait that long, it appears to be more of a cover up. If within the week he left they had said he was taking a leave to deal with a family health issue then the vast majority of the speculation wouldn't be happening.

It's kinda like apologizing after you've been caught, it doesn't mean as much
