Stop blaming NHRA, NHRA does't employ these guys. ESPN does or did, and now I guess Fox. I pretty sure from working with a lot of networks NHRA has very little say in who they get. They most likely get the right to refusal and that's about it. and an invoice to come later.

I hate NHRA but, In this case, I don't think they are the villain.
I think they are the villain, and I also think Graham Light figures prominently in this decision.

I'm not saying NHRA is the "villain" here, but Dunn's statement clearly said that NHRA decided to go in a different direction. Nothing was said about ESPN......

I'm still trying to process the logic here.

Mike Dunn is an incredible drag racing analyst, and as a former top-tier driver, is able to quickly and accurately convey what's going on not only on track, but in the pits as well. The only way to replace this kind of talent and ability, is with another top-tier driver that other drivers, crew-chiefs, and owners respect. I'm not sure how a female analyst is going to be better for the broadcast, unless she's a proven commodity like Shirley or Angelle. As to diversity, I sure as hell hope that whomever they choose in that role is also a veteran driver or crew chief.

I was enthused about the planned move from ESPN to Fox when I first heard about it. Now that Dunn is out of the booth, my enthusiasm is evaporating in a hurry.

The most important thing I have learned from this thread is that TJ and Radar might be neighbors.

Grape NeHi anyone???

Back on topic, I would bet on Troxel. Not sure what her tuning chops are but she can drive just about anything and didn't she do some announcing work earlier in her career.

although us diehards appreciate all that mike dunn brings to the table; if you're trying to introduce this sport to a new audience, all the
background knowledge in the world means nothing to a new viewer. IMO us diehards will not like the new crew on fsn1, but will
need to think about what a potentional 15-30 year old viewer is thinking as they listen to these new commentators and their delivery
of what is happening on the track, in the pits and i think we're going to see a lot more of what's going on in the stands and/or interaction with fans in the stands and in the pits

I've noticed that nobody has mentioned Ashley Force Hood, just thought I would throw that in the mix.

I could have understood them replacing anybody but Dunn. He's the only expert on the broadcast, why take that away. Stupid.

Man I miss those drivers and races from back in the early 90's They had real personalities and the races were good unlike this current crop of corporate sponsorship spewing zombies where the same cars win every week and they shut them off at 1000 ft. I'd much rather watch that racing in that video instead of the current show. 7.0 prostock? love it too

And I really don't care who is announcing or reporting because I record the shows and fast forward thru everything but the actual races.

What I worry about is Fox going for the full youth market (as they probably should - better demographic for expendable income) and bringing in a team of announcers that would be better served doing the X Games.... It'll get tired really quick for those of us smart enough to know how the sport works, but nowhere near the talent to be behind a mic.

Whit Bazemore in the booth! The guy doesn't bite his tongue and he tells it like it is, like Cruz when he was in the booth. JMHO

Gee.... I like Cruz but, I don't remember him being (week-to-week) very good.
I think Mike Dunn has become - reliably - good.
FWIW: I don't think it will be Whit or Cruz or ANY of the older folks (From where I'm sitting - Melanie's young<G)!

I don't know, Tom.... There's some pretty amazing music being released on the Web... Hard to find- kinda like the old days. You have to look for it.... but that's another thread.

I know what you mean. I was talking about modern pop music. I turn to my musician friends for what's good as they would know better than me.
