I'll say it once I'll say it again, The mans called the professor for a reason. I agree with everything he says. As much as I love JF, I'd much rather hear WJ talk than him (no offense to john but after 10 years of nonstop coverage im a little tired of it) I also feel bad for maple grove because I race their regularly and in terms of track prep, people and surroundings its my favorite and to see the have seepage and problems kinda sucks

You are dead on with this. He is a very smart, professional and successful businessman as well as a racer. I love to hear him talk. He is very black and white, doesn't candy coat anything (just like Whit--whom others also feel is a whiner and I think he is smart) and says what he knows. WJ knows a lot. I am not sure of his feeling about the fuelers, but after that interview I realized the impact of what has been going on. I sincerely hope that someone that can make some changes heard him and takes the comments to heart. Very smart man, and doesn't babble on about nonsense. This is his carreer, his life, and his livelihood. He wants to make it respectable and safe, just as much as be respected.

I enjoy Whit too so I guess in some way there cut from the same cloth, I wish NHRA would listen to him but the odds of that are slim to none unfortunately

Prostock is a professional class, they should get that ink. I think it was absurd that on Saturdays qual show, they only showed one round of the bikes and cars but the two runs of the fuel cars. Each class only made 2 runs, why not show them all. If the Nitro Hot Road Association wants to keep prostockers on the track then they should get their share of tv exposure as well.

The only reason I watch the TV coverage of Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle is to hopefully see a camera shot of Greg Anderson's wife and Doug Horne's sister.

OK i've been hearing this white hair whine for 28 years, He's got a great point that some of the tracks need redone. But i'm guessing 80% of the butts in the seats come to see hear and get that nitro in their systems. So it don't take a math PROFFESER, (lol sorry had to toss that in). But it don't to figure without their 80% ticket money it will never get done. So either dry up the tears about where NHRA uses their money first or take your Butt back down to the dirty south, ATL or whatever the kids are calling it theas day and race your sportsman car for 200 bucks on friday nights on the back woods tracks and turn your big sponcers money over to someone thats wanting to see the sport grow. Please retire already your taking up some prime pit spots.

I don't think its whining, its his butt that has been on at least 2 (maybe 3) passes this year on wet tracks that almost caused him to wreck. It's his life and money out there so I can see his anger and love that somone has the stones to speak up about anything.

There is some truth to what he said however the 1% he complains about also bring in the vast majority of the butts in the seats. It is difficult to please everyone, especially with safety issues.

I do disagree with him on one point though and that is his percentage. At
E-town this year we saw 2 alky cars go flying into the traps. Alexia's crash would have had Scott like results if not for the improvements that were made. So the new finish barriers are not just for nitro but he is right some other issues need to be addressed as well

Doesn't it seem kinda strange that WJ complains about TF/FC speeds after they went to 1000'? I don't recall him saying this in the past?

But he has. I remember watching a show in the early 00's when he complained about the NHRA prepping the tracks for the fuel cars. He's always had a bug up his *ss about the loud cars.

And just to let all the soon to be haters of me know im their for every class not just the fuel cars. I dont run to the pits after every pro session. I've been into it for many many years 28 at least come to mind comp is probley my favorite so I'm not just cheering for the fuel boys I'm just being honest. The big boys bring in the most fans and in the return the majority of the cash flow. I doubt if Pro Stock was the fastest and best class that NHRA would have Million dollar races. Sorry my opion of W.J. is just mind and mine alone. Long live every class, and in closing i just want to say come on Allen Johnson your killing me get that HEMI back on track, I love you man!!!!!!! :D

Based on that description, I'd say that is WJ airing his grievances against the sanctioning body, NHRA, more than anything else. You can argue that WJ has issues with nitro cars all day based on the simple fact that he has stuck with carburators for the last 30+ years. I've been a fan of the sport since I was really young, and in that time, I've never heard a constant stream of complaints from WJ specifically about fuel cars. Lots of comments about Glidden, Alderman, Geoffrion, Yates, Jeggie, Anderson, and Connolly; but, maybe you have "insider" info that I don't.

Jason I'm a fan of the Alky/Pro Mod and Fuel classes first and foremost. But I enjoy watching Comp and the Hemi shootout as well. But lets face it, NOBODIES gonna sit in them bleachers for every car, every class! I have no problem with somebody who could care less about the Fuel cars, if someone's gonna plop down $55-60 for a ticket they can watch what they want!

Actually Joe, I am one of those people who pretty much watches every car in every class. I may skip a round of the _.90 classes during time trials, but once eliminations start, my big fat a$$ is in the stands!

I'm guessing English wasn't your strongest subject in school. If you are so tired of "hearing this white hair whine", why do you still watch? By the way, what innovations have you contributed to the sport of drag racing? I'm thinking NONE!!!!

We need more people speaking their minds rather than worrying about being PC. I.e. Garlits, Shirley, WJ, Whit................. and I'll argue that WJ was NOT whining! Back a cat into a corner and eventually he'll come out fighting.

Opinions are like A-holes,just like you.:eek:My opinion of you is also mine and mine alone. Now I feel better and I even got the spelling right.

Ouch!

Sorry Joe but at the mid season 50th Pomona race I sat for 13 hours of every class. Admittedly I really was bored with 130 8.90 pipe racks. And I'm probably the odd ball that enjoys Stock to Comp to PM to AA/FA and so on. Sure Stock is slow compared to TF but those guys can tune a motor!

..............so is this the average American speaking up???? Holy Crap! And by the way that "math PROFFESER" (awesome spelling) has done more for this sport than there is room on here to type it all out. You don't have to like WJ but you probably should respect his intelligence. IMO

Uh, did you ever stop to think that the fuel drivers started out running sportsman classes? Ever been down the track before?

Considering that I didn't see the interview - only going by the comments on the thread - you could say that I am talking out of my @ss...

That said, if Maple Grove has not had any previous issues with percolation...or wheepers...over the years - or THIS year in particular, I think it is unfair to say or assume the track has spent all its money in other areas and neglected this issue.

Knowing the people involved at MP - especially Lex Dudas - if there had been an issue with the track surface previously, they would have made all efforts to correct it.

Just my $0.02...

I think they had a problem earlier in the year also....

He made a perfect point. NHRA has always been retroactive, not proactive. If they would have pulled back some rules on in T/F-F/C years ago and stayed on top of it (similar to how NASCAR has kept speeds in check), then cost of racing would hopefully be better aligned and safety would come before it was too late.
