Topeka Rumor?

Rumor around this area is that NHRA is considering not coming back to Topeka next year. Anyone else hear this??

Does the Rumor say WHY?

d'kid:confused:

I guess attendance isn't as good as it used to be, not many vendors (merchandise, souvenirs) show up anymore, and the weather hasn't really cooperated the past few years. I heard this from a couple different people in the Matco Hospitality, and I also asked a buddy that works on Brandon Bernstein's car and he said that is what he heard also. Nothing set in stone yet though he said.

Take rumors for what they are worth, and usually it's not much. Every race I go to I hear stuff like this. I've been hearing for a couple years that Charlotte is going to lose one of it's races. Hasn't happened yet. I hear that Englishtown is going to be gone. Hasn't happened yet. Even the Phoenix rumor which really had some legs hasn't really happened yet. Talk is cheap.....

I wouldn't put any stock in the rumors. You could say the same things about many of the venues currently in use.

I'll believe when I see it gone from the next yesr's schedule.

Exactly, every year when Rt. 66 comes around there's always rumors that the track is going away and each year it is open and hosting races.

I heard a rumor that rumors are sometimes not true :D

If Nhra pullled out of Topeka...then Baby Dolls would go out of business...and then how are them girls going to feed their kids?

Eugene, thanks for dragging some great Baby Doll memories out of the dark recesses of my brain that I didn't realize were in there anymore.

I had a fun Baby Dolls night many years ago after a Topeka race. The place was jumping even though I didn't get there until around 1am.

What really cracked me up is that when I left there was a powder blue Cadillac right up in the front of the parking lot, with a special "preacher" license plate on the back of it.

I guess he was in there "ministering" to one of the girls.

I'm glad I could do my part.:D We had a pretty good time there last year also.:)

I hope not, I wish they would move it back to the fall. Seems like the weather is more consistent, and so much less stuff going on (graduations, sports conflicts..etc). Didn't hurt that western auto was a title sponsor, headquartered out of Kansas City gave away and heavily discounted so many tickets back then (fall race and even the double national event years)....had a couple rough "baby dolls" nights as well...

We race there for the Divisional there every year the weekend before Indy. It's Topeka, there is no predicting weather. There isn't even a small hill to ward off winds.. Nice thing is you can see Tornadoes coming I guess. We got 1 qualifier, set the fields and the race was postponed last year.

Topeka is so spread out, it always looks a lot more empty than it really is, kind of like Chicago. Trust me, there was a good turnout. Weather will always play a role there. I don't think anyone was really disappointed.

A good example of a "Rumor" is me and a friend go fishing and we catch a perch. by the time the news traveled throughout the grandstands we caught "Moby Dick". so, in other words..believe it when we see it.
