Topeka Rumor?

Attendance has been down at pretty much every track so far this year ... We can't lose them all.

I think the weather reports scared a lot of people off this past weekend.

I went in there one night after Qualifying back around '95-'96? Seemed like every Pro crew member was in there!

I bought a lap dance for a certain Pro Stock racer who was sitting at a table near us with his crew one year. I was also told to leave the establishment when I was accused of touching a dancer one year. Been back once since then. Gettin' too old for the strip club scene I guess.

Don't know about Saturday's crowd ... but watching E-Town Friday qualifying on ESPN3 it was a sparse crowd. Maybe only 1 deep at the fence and tons of visible aluminum in the stands from the starting line down. No way to hide that much emptiness. Friday night at E-Town used to be a packed house, sign of the times?

Both yesterday and today the 1st session had more people in the stands than the 2nd session. Yesterday was lighter than a typical Friday crowd at E-Town. Today's crowd was on par with the past years. During the 1st session today on the pit side reserved section I didn't see many empty seats at all.

The only thing that bugs me about Topeka is, there's a prime section where a road course goes through, where they can't put seats. That's a lot wasted space.

I don't know Paul ... based on the ESPN footage, I wouldn't call Friday night light. It was empty and that was during twilight Nitro qualifying. This was no camera angle illusion. It looked very similar to the crowd when Pro Stock is running. Just thought it was really strange to see that. Even at the "old" Summernationals, they were packed in like sardines with 100 degree heat. If the NHRA "majors" can't fill the place anymore, then we have a bigger problem looming on the horizon.

What does this mean for Epping attendance? How many folks are willing to spend that money twice in less than a month? Maybe the New England and Canadian people stayed away from E-Town this year to get their fix at Epping (closer to home). I guess we'll see.

I know a lot of ETown regulars that skipped this year because they're going to Epping.

This has been brought up soooo many times before, but the ticket prices are outrageous! If NHRA always has such a surplus of cash, that they need to give out astronomical bonuses, they can cut their ticket prices back by $10 and make it more affordable in today's market.
