Talking about team orders...

I got a kick out of Lewis Hamilton accidentally pulling into the McClaren pits (I'm sure his new Mercedes team really felt good about that). Not something that helps you during the race!

What a sham!

What's this: the second or third race of the season and they're already dicking around with team orders?

This is the biggest motorsport venue in the world - they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

PS: I used to be a big F-1 fan - just can't warm-up to the slot-car nature (and sound) of the current vehicles. That said, this kinda' stuff is not going to win F-1 any new fans. It's as bad as the NASCAR Debris Flag near the end of (seemingly) every big race.

you know team orders are far less prevelant (or obvious) in F1 now than almost any other time in F1 history right? ...

F1 has ALWAYS been about team first, driver second, and until the most recent generation every team had a definite number one driver and the number two drivers job was to see that the number one driver won....I think the only new F1 fans bothered by team orders would be band-wagoners anyway and would be off to the next shiny thing sooner or later anyway...

that said, unless they open up the engine and mechanical rules so team can do something besides play with the aero it will become a virtual spec series anyway

Racing in all venues is a business and most knowledgable fans in other venues undestand this and accept it. Basically drag race fans are almost the only motor race fans who don't understand why and accept team orders. Not sure why drag racing fans don't.

Don't watch it anymore. They *had* to do something to stop the excessive spending by teams before the entire series collapsed. There were only going to be 4 teams left and that won't support a series. By stopping the unlimited budget teams they made sure a full field would play.

F1 lost it when they went to the ugly cars. They should take some of the aero off and let them drive the cars again.

You can't please everyone, but you can piss them all off by allowing the kind of finish that happened this weekend.

If there was only 2 laps or so left ... then hold your position.

There were 12 laps to go in a 56 lap race. Vettel was quicker and Webber's tires were going away. As soon as Vettel cleared Webber he was off into the distance. The quicker car/driver won, and that's the way it should be.

People piss and moan about team orders and then piss and moan when people disobey team orders. I don't know what to say.

The real interesting thing will be how the team handles their golden boy for disobeying team orders.

From the "praying history doesn't repeat itself" department, this very thing happened in 1982 at Ferrari. At the San Marino GP the great Gilles Villenueve was out front and was told to slow down and save the car. His teammate, Didier Pironi, was running second and despite instructions, passed Villenueve and blocked him all the way to the checkered flag. Villenueve was furious, much like Webber was yesterday. Villenueve was incensed that people thought Pironi actually won the race or was a better driver, so he set off at the next round at Zolder to make a point. Unfortunately, he died in a qualifying crash going out on a late banzai run to better Pironi's time.

At least one F1 "superfan" doesn't seem to like it.

It's no longer racing if team orders demand you not even attempt a pass on your teammate.

Just another issue that comes up because championships are more valued than individual race wins and in F1 the constructors championship is more important to the teams than the driver's championship.

One thing you forgot to mention is why Vettel was faster. They BOTH had orders to turn down their engines -Weber did-Vettel disregarded team orders and kept his on full.
3rd +4th were also settled on team orders. Can't say I 'm a fan of the practice-but I don't have any "skin in the game" either.

I mentioned Vettel was quicker ... TWICE.

Team orders would evaporate tomorrow if each F1 car had a different main sponsor.....two of the same cars in each team means there's no sponsor outcry if one car/driver is favored over the other......

Was truly a crappy move on Seb's part. Definitely an "entitlement" issue there. It's too early to call it his championship, and Web's got as much talent I don't care who says differently. This "mine mine mine" attitude of Seb's goes all the way back to the 2010 Turkish GP collision between them. For this reason alone, I will place my HEX on Seb's year. Boog-a-la Boog-a-la Boog-a-la Ah Ah Ah

Now....I haven't heard about Alonso's deal with skipping pit-in with his front wing issue, only to run off the track moments later....would have really sucked if he had collected others in that brash move. I remember them saying the crew was ready for him to pit, but he didn't, so I wonder if we'll ever learn if he ignored the pit-in order. hmmmmmm

because racing laps around a circuit is an endurance contest, much the same
as 4 qtrs. of football, 3 periods of hockey or any other team sports;
fans grasp the concept of one car helping another.
drag racing is mano-o-mano; an intense, violent and quick sprint against
two competitors; not much room for 'team'.
Team can mean more knowlege and data in pits but there really isn't any
place for it once they line up to race, and any 'team' play on track is contrived
and has been shown over and over to be just that; and lately IMO we've
seen less and less of it
