What a great ride for someone. I guess you would look for someone that is hungry to win, really focused, who takes their racing seriously. Kurt Busch?

To be as successful as Forrest Lucas is I'm sure he hires good people and get out of the way and let's them manage. No doubt he expects results and steps in when it doesn't meet his expectations, but I don't think that would be a problem with AJR.

The Lucas family has done a tremendous amount of good for the sport. having said that, he's shown he's hardly a "Hands Off" type of team owner.

I really doubt these two, while I'm sure they like and respect each other, would be able to work together.

That's what was said when he went to work for Don Schumacher. As I recall, that worked out pretty good for all involved.....

Alan

I would say he is spending about 3 million a year for both cars. I remember Dunn saying if you wanted to run for the championship you needed 3 million or more for 1 top fuel car. I just don't see Lucas spending 6 million for Larry and Morgan to run for the championship. JMO

3 million for both cars at every race isn't possible IMO! 8-10 full-time crew for both cars, have you seen the Lucas Hospitality pit?? I bet that was about $10-15,000 per race alone!

I knew a guy who has posted here over the years, he handled ALL the Finances for a Former Top Ten FC team around 2005-'06? Their total budget which included the Crew, Hospitality, Fuel and Transport, Airlines tickets, Hotels, etc... Was around $125,000 per race!

If I were Alan Johnson and had such a great track record, I'd love to have the challenge of bringing in an unknown, grooming them, and still achieving the same success.

*ahem*
[shamless plug]
AJ, I'm available and a very mold-able sponge!

You are right sir.

Ok then, you, more than anyone else on this board (Except for Don, of course.) should know. Did Don do any day-to-day meddling in Alan's operation when Alan worked for him? Or is he, as I suspect he is, the type of team owner who hires the best people he can get, then steps back to let them do their job while he keeps track of the big picture?
IF these rumors prove to be true (I'm still waiting for official work from Alan J or Morgan) do you think the Lucas management style would be the same?

It's my understanding it's a done deal and has been since LV or before. Lucas and Dixon drive, Forest is the owner and AJ is the manager with AJ's current crews. Forrest purchased everything from AJ after the Shiek settled up with AJ by giving him ownership to all the teams assets.

How sure are you of this? This rumor was floating around about this time but a little birdy says that this never came to be. Now if something recent has happened its news to birdy.....lol

Quote from #78: Disclaimer follows....Of course that's all rumor and I have no first hand knowledge so take it for what it's worth but it comes from what I think is a very knowledgable source.

I would say it's closer to 4 a team

It's been said on this blog that until something is officially announced it is still a rumor. Nothing wrong with rumors. The speculation is interesting.
As far as Alan Johnson taking over the team from the Shiek and the Shiek leaving drag racing, it's still a rumor.
There has not been any official announcement from Alan Johnson except that he is looking for a driver for the gold car that Del drove to #1. No mention of any other changes to the team, no mention of change to sponsor (Al Anabi), no other information at all. Remember he said for the gold car, doesn't sound like Al Anabi is history.
As I said the rumors are fun but until there is an official announcement from Alan Johnson there is still a two car Al Anabi t/f team and anything else is just fun speculation.:)

Another reason the Sheik could be cutting back on funding for drag racing ... the Qatari government (aka the Sheik's family) owns a middling soccer team in France called Paris Saint-Germain. They just offered David Beckham a 18 month 17.9 million dollar contract. That's right, they are going to pay an over-the-hill soccer player a million dollars a month.

I think he should put someone that has never raced in the nitro ranks... That would bring new blood to the class plus it would show everyone he can make anyone win in his cars....

I think Matt Smith would be an excellent choice...It would be exactly the same to another great Pro Stock motorcycle rider going from the bikes to Top Fuel....
