Anyone who knows Stu knows his driving ability, plus his time as a mechanic/crew chief gives him a better insight than pure drivers.
The TV interviews would be entertaining to say the least.
There never is a dull moment around Stu. "The King of playing Practical Jokes".;)

Now having said that...sure you need an experienced Driver who can peddle out a win, or Pull out a Holeshot win once in awhile. But if the performance isn't there, the wins will be slim and none!

And if the driver can't keep the car in the groove, cut a light, lift before he/she puts it in the wall or pops a blower, the performance doesn't matter.

And I seem to remember Tony, Larry, and Del being accomplished drivers before they signed with AJ.

Don't get me wrong, I've said before that AJ is one of the two best crew chiefs in history and any car he is tuning has a huge leg up on the competition. But to act like the driver isn't integral in the whole equation, is short-sighted and naive.

Alls you have to do is compare the championships AJ and Austin Coil have won, compared to everyone else!

52 posts, and no one picked Mike Dunn! Whith Paul Page as the slick wiper.

I talked to Dunn many times. I ask him alot and so have many other people and outlets as to when he is coming back. He's not getting any younger, he keeps saying he will but then he lets espn ruin the plans by signing a contract, I think he should either quit and come back or just flat out retire formally from driving.

Brandon Bernstein doesn't have a prayer of getting in an A.J. ride. He better put that college education that daddy paid for to use now. Unless Copart is willing to let Kenny broker a deal with a good team. And I think the only team that would add another car would be Kalitta.

What is wrong with Mike keeping his options open? I don't see any reason he needs to retire yet. You never know when the right deal might come along.

It's my understanding it's a done deal and has been since LV or before. Lucas and Dixon drive, Forest is the owner and AJ is the manager with AJ's current crews. Forrest purchased everything from AJ after the Shiek settled up with AJ by giving him ownership to all the teams assets.

I have no idea if this is true or not.But it makes more sence than all the other ideas I have seen.

I had also heard this rumor but I don't think the Lucas Group wants to put forth the money it takes to win a championship. JMO

I certainly cannot believe that one. Any full time budget team is racing for a title, if they did not want to win a championship by doing whatever it takes to finally get Morgan in the position, then why are they driving at all. I would be ok with Morgan getting the seat if he continues to show his driving and rt talent. As far as all the below the belt shots at anyone buying this ride, this is not a normal open seat on a tf team, this is an open seat on an AJR TF car, you'll get a great crew, brian husen tuning, AND AJ HIMSELF MAY EVEN TUNE YOU. If you are a drag racer that had the money to try and buy a seat in a car that will give you a Guaranteed excellent year, if not championship winner, you tell me that you would not make an offer to AJ. The seat is worth any $ amount you can spent. I rather have AJ pick the driver tho, his personal selection will probably give them a longer life with the team than just a season

How much you think Forrest spent running 2 Dragsters all season?

I would say he is spending about 3 million a year for both cars. I remember Dunn saying if you wanted to run for the championship you needed 3 million or more for 1 top fuel car. I just don't see Lucas spending 6 million for Larry and Morgan to run for the championship. JMO

why not? he spent how many millions just to see his name on the side of a football stadium? he also sponsors the drag boat assoc. , off road series along with the sportsman series and several race teams in all of those organizations. you really think he would skimp in spending another couple million to do it right?!?!

Not counting original investment he's spent 6 million a year (3 per car) plus support equipment refresh every season or two for the last 6 or so years and has..what one wally to show for it? If I was him and had spent that much with nothing to show for it I'd be happy to hire arguably the top CC in the sport and win or I'd get out.

My understanding is he wrote a very very large check (perhaps 8 digits in whole dollars) to AJ for the complete operation and his services. Don''t know what they plan on doing with all the equipment they already owned but that was AJ's terms.

Disclaimer follows....Of course that's all rumor and I have no first hand knowledge so take it for what it's worth but it comes from what I think is a very knowledgable source.

I agree with Gary Scelzi on this issue. AJ likes to run things a certain way. Judging from his accomplishments, it's a pretty damned good way. Having driven for Alan, I think Gary knows what he's talking about.

The Lucas family has done a tremendous amount of good for the sport. having said that, he's shown he's hardly a "Hands Off" type of team owner.

I really doubt these two, while I'm sure they like and respect each other, would be able to work together.

I'll be the first to eat crow if it happens. I just don't see it happening.

Like Gary noted, I think the next driver will be an up and comer from the alcohol ranks.
