I remember that almost every time after we watched Evel jump on tv, my brothers and I would build ramps at the edge of our lawn.We would pedal our bikes as fast as we could down this hill that teed into our road.At first it was a brick with a plank, then two cinder blocks and the same plank, and then we would pile a bunch of stuff up, with the same plank that was by now almost straight up!!
I dont think I sacrificed my brothers (younger than me) on the first attempt at the almost vertical monster, I took the full hit my self!! The bike hit the plank ,then I hit the bike, bricks, plank dirt grass etc.:D:D:D
We got banged up a bunch of times ,but damn it was great!!!
And each one of us got to be Evel Knievel for just a moment!!!

Thanks Evel!!

I too remember how much He was a part of our everyday live's in the 60s, Evel Knievel was like Batman, only He was REAL, I remember watching Him in northeast Ohio as a kid, We were like...."I saw Evel Knievel at dragway 42 this weekend", there were 32 nitro funnycars and of course Art Arfons had the "Green Monster" out for a "test" run. Those were rare times... rare but it was THE talk of the schoolyard on monday. And EVERYONE knew SOMEONE who knew Evel Kenivel OR Art Arfons (HE was our hometown Hero) It was so funny.....My Uncle knows Evel Kenivel and Art Arfons, (actually it was My Grandpa that knew them both, but who would admit that at six years old??) I'm glad He lived a full life....RIP Evel

Here ya go, Kenny.

In addition to jumping Harley XR 750's, he used to jump American Eagle motorcycles. Man, they were heavy, ill handling bikes. He may have also jumped Triumphs and BSA's. Not too sure about them.
