The idea behind the liner was to stiffen the sidewall to help them with tire shake however, That rim modification was illegal because like Mike said, It was done to an SFI approved rim. Kinda funny how it seems like Elite is the only one with problems.

Its not an inner tube, it's an inner liner that acts as the bead lock. They are legal in Pro Mod and the Alcohol classes. But not Pro Stock.
There's an intervies with Richard on Comp+ where he explains his side.

As far as I know there is no wheel that has a bead lock that you run a liner with -Putting the second valve stem in is needed to run the liner this is a not ever been [illegal] to my knowledge there is a print as to how and where to put it .these are totally different approaches as how to clamp the sidewall some use screws is this a legal mod. to the wheels? Liner wheel -Bead lock should be their choice This is called picking the remains out of -hit -some one that don't know race cars is playing the rules to far----big egos the know it alls

If the liner is safer as we have been told for many a years is it not allowed- is not safety part of Walley's NHRA motto?

There are wheels on the market known as “bead liners”, which is a wheel with beadlocks that also accept liners. It’s a new-ish design. Elite did not MODIFY any wheels, they bought them like that. The issue is that the liner is not called out in the rulebook as being legal in PS like it is in TA and PM.

I might of became a Richard Freeman fan after that interview. He is relaxed and speaks like my Texas ass does.
