Just when things get slow another Glendale post or Evan Knol thread shows up to stir the pot.
We don't seen to be getting as much news posibly because in trying times it's understandable people want to be certain before possibly shooting themselves in the foot.
That would go for sponsors too !
Sponsor budgets are headed South while Team costs are always headed North .
Looking at ADRL response I think it's just an economic thing right now and the racing aspect is as popular as ever and growing.
I still rely on the Mater for all things NHRA Pro related .
With that said we need an update thread on the Pro's Sale , B Smith's possibly buying and what about his daughter .
Maybe things are a bit slow around here.
1,000 ft doesn't seem to get a rise anymore !

Hi Cole

Any chance of letting me buy a few of those? They will go great with my original Nitronic T-Shirt!

It would be a pleasure. But you don't have to buy 'em...

Drop me an e-mail at cole dot coonce at gmail dot com and include your home address.... I will happily stuff a handful into an envelope for you....

Anybody else? (I found hundreds of the sticky buggers.)

cheers,

Nitronic Research's "Header Flames" certainly had its moments.

Funny, I was digging around my garage the other day, looking for pictures to scan, and I found a whole of box of immaculate Nitronic Research stickers.

If you could get Franklin Ratcliff posting here that would get things rolliing again.

If the site is slow do what I do. Find some bad legislation or a story about a local peacock that makes CNN. That always keeps things lively.

Yep, that is true. And because of certain members, some with stupidly big heads, also some mods who will move threads around, and a few other things, really put me off posting here. Only reason why I still check in on here, is to PM a buddy, and look at some of the great photography posted on here. This forum did lose it's vibe, because I sure haven't lost my love for Drag Racing.

Hey Michael, I had no idea you have had a problem with some of the posters (posers) on Nitromater. I had noticed you weren't posting as much, but then neither have I. Sorry to hear that some people here have turned you off. Have you found another board that compares?

For sure, there are people on this BB who are definitely qualified to discuss that material at length. I expected threads, for example, on the mechanical changes effected by the switch to a 1,000-foot tuneup, discussions on how to deal with reducing the comparatively lengthy reaction times associated with the clutch systems in use in Fuel cars, and perhaps, some intelligent questions and answers regarding the unnecessarily restrictive rules that prevent any real technological progress with regard to changes to Fuel motors.

That subject matter is ripe for discussion, but I haven't seen any.

Bill, in Conway, Arkansas

Bill, my qualifications are suspect, but, here goes a point of view.

The idea in nitro racing has always been to get the clutch locked up early and get the motor to rev to as many rpms as possible as soon as possible. Technology in blowers and clutches jumped the speeds way up and NHRA countered with rev limiters. Teams were on the rev limiter as early as 3.5 seconds into a run, causing a lot of engine damage. The shorter racing distance helped this situation.

Have you checked out reaction times lately? They seem to be getting much better. This can be accomplished by the staging position or changes to the fuel and clutch system, and both will affect the et of the run.

The restrictive rules have been beneficial to the lesser funded teams, but it has not stopped the constant R and D to go quicker and faster by any of the teams. The things that are done race to race are not seen or picked up by the average fan (or most fans and some competitors) at the races. When Whit was reporting from the pits and said the cars had changed drastically in the two years he had been away, he wasn't just talking about safety features.

And Joe, I don't believe the Mater is dying. Some may have grown tired of rehashing the same subjects, but they are around. Keep doing your part by showing the eye candy that is present at each of the events you attend.

I agree with Suzie on the reasons fewer active team members posts. No matter what they say, some will disagree and post something that team owners and sponsors would perfer not to see. And with real names, they can't deny it was them that posted something mean, stupid or untrue about something or someone.

And it is always good to see a JJ post, even if it is Jannard and not Jungle. :)

I think it's just the natural evolution of message boards. I've been on a self-imposed semi hiatus from posting as of late, partially due to my life being incredibly busy now and some other issues as well. I still try to check in every few days even if only to scan the new posts. With only one or two exceptions the folks I've met in person as a result of participating here have been wonderful. I've developed what I feel sure will be lifelong friendships with many of you.

My advice to those of you who don't like the Mater... find another message board.

I think it's ironic that a thread about the message board dying is one of the hottest topics on the message board. All we need now is a discussion about how threads about the board dying are everlasting and we'll complete the meta-discussion. :)

My guess is that the "names" in the sport lurk on and/or read the Mater precisely because of the real names -- it certainly does calm down the blowhards. All you have to do is wander over to some of the other boards to see the other side of the coin. Very often they are dominated by people who love the sound of their own voice (the click of their own keyboard?). At CompPlus, for example, there's one poster who has 8-10 times as many posts as the next highest person. And they haven't the slightest idea what they are talking about...

Suzie is right about stars posting here as well. All wise PR people will tell you that there's little to gain by engaging in these forums. You're frequently misinterpreted, rarely effective in clearing the air, and often attacked by the aforementioned blowhards. As the old adage goes: "better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".

That said, I love the occasional DonS and other "name" sightings. At least here you are reasonably guaranteed that it really is DonS, not some impostor, and his brutal effectiveness at taking the wind out of a classic Mater "dive off the deep end" is a true joy to witness. :D

Hey Virgil, When you planning on getting back to the NFC scene?

Why? My opinions on what it would take to make the NFC movement successful are no secret. Several in their naivity, pushed to go in different directions and to repeat history, and they are the ones complaining the loudest because what they were warned would happen, has happened.

I sold my cars because I grew tired of the short sightedness of several promoters and many racers. I wish all well that are still involved, but I have no interest in being part of it.

I have been a Mater member longer and enjoy this board more than any/all the NFC sites. And I don't see the Mater dying any time soon.

Wow Virgil, did I hit a nerve?...I was simply asking if/when you would be back... I dont care what boards you are apart of or not... I was simply wondering about the Hartmen racing future...

The only thing wrong with the Mater for some people is it's civil (most of the time). For some people if there is not enough anger/arguing then it's dead or lame. That's why people liked it when they had the anonymity of hiding behind screen names, they could say anything and never be held accountable.

For the most part the Mater is a group of friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic people. If it's slowed down any it's because the people that have the depth of a puddle of water have left for greener pastures.

If you could get Franklin Ratcliff posting here that would get things rolliing again.

Although he could certainly be a loop tape, Franklin was the least of the problems with Header Flames.

And he wasn't the reason the board was ultimately mothballed.

As per ensuring longevity, the NitroMater format seems far more successful than Header Flames was -- if, albeit, a little less incendiary.

Seems to me VH was bringing you back to the topic of this thread rather than hijacking it and turning it into a Q&A about him.

And what if it was off topic...People here are encouraged it seems to derail a thread.. I do it and even keep it race related and I get called on it... Guess my mater cred isnt high enough to derail threads yet... :p

:D

Chris, that's the very Point I made in Post #76! This very thread is bringing people out of the shadows. It had better not go to Page 2 or the Site will get dead again!:p
