"It's a Damn Shame"
That sure is a fact.
This whole thing reminds me of a guy that wanted to open up a car dealership local to me about 15-18 years ago. He was a very successful businessman in the food distribution business and was a big automotive enthusiast. He had quite the classic car collection. The dealership he acquired had been closed for a few years and he spent a metric sh!t ton on a remodel and all the latest equipment. He sought out a very experienced group front to back (including myself) to get things started and had everything set up to be very successful and hit the ground running. He promised big things and big money.
The guy wouldn't let anybody do their jobs. He always thought he had a better idea, and if you told him he was wrong, well you didn't last long after that. After about 6 months, about every position and been fired and re-hired about 2-3 times over except me and one other guy.
One day, me and that guy were having a conversation after one of the latest unjustified firings and he told me this....
"You know Paul... I like to drink beer. I like to drink a lot of beer. That does not mean I would know how to own and operate a bar..... This guy likes cars and stuff, but man he has no idea how to run a car dealership......."
It wasn't long after, we were both gone, and the owner had his fun and sold the dealership not too long after.
I feel bad for the people that haven't been paid, not just the racers, everybody.
I'm hoping none of the racers have themselves in too big of a bind for spending money on parts/pieces/hotels/etc. for Columbus counting on that money to pay off what they had spent getting ready for and attending the event.
I feel bad for the racers that spent a ton of money updating their equipment for the soul purpose of running IHRA.
I feel bad for the racers that have a race car in their shop that were specifically bought to run IHRA. I can think of a couple folks that own TF cars now that probably would not if IHRA didn't exist. Not saying they can't run NHRA now, but I don't think that was the main intent.
