How do you win with a blown up body?

I thought the winner of each round had to cross the scales, and be at legal racing weight to be able to advance. When you explode the car, and the body is disintegrated, how do you make weight?

Valid question, but my guess is that if you suffer that much carnage and are still able to keep it in your lane and cross the finish line first - which was the orignal basis of the sport - they make exceptions.

NHRA rule book, section 12, subsection 3 says: when a body exits a car during a round win and can not likely or fairly be recovered, 1/3 (one-third) of the winning crew must head to the scales within 15 minutes and drape themselves over the remaining chassis to determine weight. Teams are allowed a one-crew-member exception, known historically as the "fatty rule."

Yes, this is basically an advertisement for Joe's WFO Radio show ... Tuesday night or Wednesday morning it is streaming on my iPhone during my commute. Nice change of pace, especially since we lost our 2 hour Sat a.m. drag racing show on the radio in Houston a year or so back.

If anyone else has any preferred audio content on the internet I'd love to hear it. I've tried to figure out how to get Kernan's podcasts on my iPhone but I must only have that can of patience for working on racecars ... I can't figure out how to Subscribe to get them on my iPhone.

Jeff... I've found it easier to go through iTunes. In the podcasts window search John Kernan or rpm2night and you'll find them. Hope that helps.
