I'm hoping worst case is a Monday finish. Would think they want to run the Shootout at Gainesville rather than postpone it to Vegas or Houston. Would need to pro sessions on Saturday or Sunday to make that happen. Hope they don't postpone to next weekend. I live in California and would not fly back. As it is, I'm on my way now from St Maarten.

Just got this from the NOAA forcast

Friday Night
A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 10pm. Low around 66. South wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Saturday
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm. High near 71. Breezy, with a southwest wind 16 to 18 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Saturday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 31.
Sunday
Sunny, with a high near 60.
Sunday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 41.
Monday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 71.

lights and no curfew at gainesville rite? they can run as late as they can on sat. nite? finals or more of all-star race under the lights? i'd wear a jacket for that.
Problem with that is once I think the temperature and dew point flip flop it is way too dangerous to race and since it will already be cold and a lot of water in the air it would not take long for that to happen.

My question is with the forecast looking more promising for Sunday and Monday is it possible if Friday and Saturday get washed out, pro qualifying moves to Sunday and eliminations happen Monday?

This was taken 25 min ago.... nhra calls Thursday racing...

Sat night TF could be one or two cars in the low 3.60s and rest at 10 secs +.

I'm not a Meteorologist but after watching the Weather Channel I don't think there's going to be any racing today. I sure hope NHRA makes the right decision and pulls the plug on this weekend and re-schedules it for next weekend.

There have been times when there was no Q at all, and Q was determined by # of points for the driver. Most points #1 Q, etc etc. Have also seen Q on Sat & everyone gets 2 runs and that's it.

If they bag qualifying, the suck factor is the single teams that don't have the data that the big teams have. So they would be going in blind having the disadvantage. NHRA has the t.v. time already booked so pushing the date scheduled, chances are that it won't be televised unless, there is a window where professional camel racing can be moved. you can laugh but I can post videos of that sport. It's huge in UAE!

ACCUWEATHER SAT NIGHT

28°Lo
RealFeel® 24°
Very Cold
3/12
Clearing and the temperature breaking the record of 29; dress warmly; significantly colder than recent nights

yikes. That’s ridiculous.

I live in S/E PA and the temp has been like a YoYo. get a day at 70 degrees then snow the next day.

NHRA pulled the plug on Friday. My guess right now would be a Monday finish. I'm sure they'll try to run as long as they can on Sunday to fill the TV time. To bad for a showcase event.

if they don't get to qualify at all the fallback is to use standings to qualify the field. In the case of top fuel there are 21 entries and I believe only 15 have points this year. Are the other 6 just out of luck and we get a short field or do they go back to last year to get #16?

The six make one run each like this, low e.t. gets the #16 spot......provided they still have a car.

Weather.com says Saturday morning rain. High on Saturday of 68. Sunny on Sunday with a high of 59. Can you say "Fast"?
Saturday afternoon could be good but a high of 59 on Sunday after a low of 30 will work against them especially in R1 where the temp might not even get out of the 40s. A couple of years back with cold but not quite as cold conditions at the Texas Motorplex, mid 50s when the race started, E1 turned into a big smokefest and a detuning contest in both fuel classes. I recall 1 nitro car out of 32 making a really stellar pass, Robert Hight (3.83/338) and the rest either blew the tires off or were tuned waaaaaay back. Round 2 was better once the temp got into the upper 60s and a few TF high-3.60 passes were laid down.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be severe thunderstorms through about noon. Maybe they'll get going after the track is dried...sure hope so.
