It is just a marketing ploy to sell more magazines and to expose the subjects to a much broader range of spectators. It has very little to do with the subjects morals. Look what this type of PR has done for Danica. She has come from a sport that has several female drivers, but she is the one who marketed herself to the world and has created a lucrative career even though she is a far below average driver. The rest of the girls are barely known by their sports fans, while Danica is a name recognized in most households.

It has worked for a long time and made many famous. If it is available to you it should be used as a marketing tool.

Chris, tell your daughter she will hear the things you describe for her whole career from those that have no class. How she handles it will be a determining factor to those that end up helping her advance her career to the level she desires. Drivers need to have driving skills, ability to focus and concentrate on their goals, the ability to market themselves, and along with all this, a very thick skin, because there will be detractors saying disrespectful things all along their trail. And who knows, maybe one of those guys hitting on her may turn out to be the man of her dreams.

I see nothing wrong with Courtney's pictures and only see good things coming from them.

Virgil, thank you for your well intended advice, but please rest assured that she's a strong and confident lady who can handle herself just fine. Perhaps you missed the point.

Should she have to? Is it just a fact of life that women are routinely valued far more for what they look like rather than who they are? Is this just a man's world and half the world's population needs to get used to being window dressing? You seem to imply that is the case and she should just get used to it.

Your argument for these pictures seems to boil down to: it has worked for others, so it's just fine. If you're a PR person promoting a drag racer, when it's Matt Hagan (not an ugly man) most of your focus is on him riding a tractor on his farm. When it's Courtney Force, it's mostly low angle shots on ESPN that focus on her physical appearance. Isn't that a problem?

Drag Racing as a sport bends over backwards to promote the fact that women and people of color have participated as equals on the track for decades. But we are all (including Shirley) still trying to shake the Cha Cha thing. And would we all feel the same if this involved stereotypes of color? If the promo for Antron referenced his race as his most distinguishing characteristic? Remember the brouhaha when TonyP made a simple reference to his hispanic heritage? Ugh...

Finally, please, rest assured that none of the jerks making the classless remarks have a snowball's chance of becoming "Mr. Right". She is dating an outstanding man.

I wonder if her last name wasn't Force, would she be doing this? Would another team owner/father be ok with it?

The bottom line is, it's all about promoting the brand. In this case the "brand" is Coutney Force.

Bingo...As I mentioned in my earlier post. Ask the women who have been CHAMPIONS if they would do this? Shirley and Angele would not....that is what I'm saying. If you want to be the BEST racer (regardless of sex) then you want to go out and win and be the most successful racer you can be. If you want to stand out and sell yourself for every angle you can play, then you are not the best RACER; you are a marketing tool.

Horse is dead...I'm moving on.
YOU SERIOUS BRO??? You don't think Shirley took these photos for publicity?

As far as Courtney being a REAL RACER, I'd put her up against anyone out there. She's held her own against all of them, drove it through the lights sideways, keeps it in her lane, always keeps her cool in the car, and has a strong desire to win. What's your definition of a REAL RACER???

She's worked her butt off to build the body she has, she should be proud of what she's accomplished.

LOL...are you f'ing with me. These pictures are not even close to what Courtney did. Ever read any of the stories on how Shirley really felt about posing like this?

IMO she was asked to do this because she is a Force. The name is one of very
few that transcends drag racing and gives her recognition at least on par
with the other niche' athletes in this 'body' issue and suddenly groups her
with the likes of household name superstars colin kaepernick and gary player.

Additional non-traditional exposure for drag racing; mite not be your version
of cookie-cutter clean, but it's an acceptable version to many and brought
to us once again by the family that knows how to think outside their
comfort zone.....and maintain sponsors.....and continue drag racing.

can't imagine what some in the golfing community
are saying about player :rolleyes::eek:

Guy, I don't think they get paid any money for the photo shoot.
