Any Canopy News??

I hate to be the only person asking this, but I gotta: enclosed T/F cockpits have been around since Cortopassi's "Glass Slipper" car and that ran a flathead! There are so many enclosed T/F cars throughout history I can't count them, Ivo Breedlove, Nye and many more ran front engined and rear engines cars with zero problems and more recently Garlits ran Swamp Rat 30 with no issues whatsoever so why is it now such a voodoo subject with the NHRA?

Insurance company, maybe?

Insurance company, maybe?

Probably....used to be that they would set aside a single pass when someone wanted to try something new...that was sufficient. Those canopies just like the small airplane tires were the style for a while, Muldowney, Carey, Kalitta...shoot...the list of who ran a canopy is quite long....dang near everyone at some point. During that time, I remember at Pomona that Gwynn in the Budweiser fueler came to the line on a test pass....had the UGLIEST front nose cover (looked like a 55gal drum cut in half) huge really, and a gigantic rear wing, seriously oversized everything, and they ran their test pass....usually, if nothing strange happened, it was allowed....I remember it didn't help, so it was all trashed for elims....I think they tried it a couple of more times....

different time, different speeds, and definitely, tighter insurance constraints nowadays

I see that Brittany's car has a canopy. Is there anyone at the races who can tell us what percentage of the teams are running one this year?
