You want some whine with that cheese?

I guess the down side to making the cars cheaper and safer to drive is you would have 30 or 40 cars showing up every race trying to get into the program. I mean, where would you park them all? That's the last thing we need is a bunch of guys out there with all those funny cars and top fuel dragsters taking up valuable space. If we had that many cars we would have to start running them four at a time just to get them all through qualifying by Sunday.
I say we should make it even more expensive and more dangerous so we can get the fields down to 8 cars. That way we can get the show over quicker so we can go home and watch tennis on television or something.
Never mind me. I'm still pissed that I had to sell the funny car back in the 70's because I couldn't afford to race. Gotta go...I think tennis is coming on.

Maybe T-Ped has tried to broach the subject behind closed doors and was not getting the traction he wanted so he took it on the air. Certainly got some of your attention.

Maybe T-Ped was not making on air statements earlier because he did not want any reflections on his sponsors ... now that he has unfortunately lost a few sponsors, he does not have to be so PC. (semi-related rant, everyone claims to hate PC/Sponsor friendly speak, but as soon as someone says something they get hammered for saying something ... can't have it both ways folks.)

You can call T-Ped a whiner, but I will tell you what I saw at the track this past weekend. I saw a guy that did not miss one session, he still straps in and goes for it, even though he knows it can go BOOM at any second. I saw a guy smiling a signing autographs more than once at the ropes.

By any metric you care to use, T-Ped is a PHENOMENALLY successful Funny Car Pilot. He has won multiple championships, piles of races and he has done it as both a hired gun and the head honcho. If you don't like him, fine, we all have our favorites. BUT, to dismiss anything he says out of hand is borderline foolish.

This almost gets TOO easy:D

No, I'm not envious.

I'm self employed, and have a lot of very neat toys to keep me busy.

I USED to go to a race almost every weekend, and to be honest, since I have been going to the drags since 1971, the allure ain't there anymore.

I'll hit a match race or divisional, where i know people racing, but that's about it, you can have the crowds and traffic. No thanks.

What I AM trying to do, is suggest to you, that to gain a higher understanding, go actually DO it.

Put your azz in the seat and learn something.

then when you post, it won't look like someone just spouting off what they saw, or someone told them.

I'm actually attempting to suggest self enlightenment.

A very useful, positive thing.

And an experience you will never forget.

then again, you COULD keep playing the lottery.................

Well Since I have never been over 55 MPH in a Street car, what makes you think I could handle Drag racing??? What are you some sort of Risk taker or what??

30 to 40 cars and cut into the Force family time, you got to be crazy. :)
That's the same thing I was thinking, make it cheaper for the less funded teams and watch them come out of the woods. I was not into drag racing when you had that many teams at a event so I would love to see that. Maybe that's the problem, the big teams don't want to see them there. Better to have 15 teams or less and try and get the 1st round bye than to hope you don't be embrassed by a low budget team who got down the track and you smoked the tires. My .02 cents.
Also from what I saw in Houston, there are plenty of room to park(with NHRA leaving out 2 sportsman classes). I saw every car in about 2 hours walking, normally it takes me at least a day. (I check out all sportsman's cars too)

Can't believe you make fun of someone with a Fear of Speed!

Guess I'm 'Tachophobia' (yeah, no kidding, that's what it's called) insensitive:(

No, never once did I insinuate you would have fear.

Thats not it.

Myself and many others I know/have known, have been VERY intimidated when they got their very first dose of G-force's and the disorientation of having been there, and all of a sudden, not being "there" anymore, but 100-200' downtrack. Yeah, "fear".

I lifted the first time I did a 400' 'squirt', and it is normal. There was a guy there that had a B/Altered at home, and he took the funny out first.

When he came back, we all circled around him to ask "how did it feel"???

He responded by opening his eyes as big as saucers and shaking his head.

Another guy in the class who everyone would recognize if I said his name, took a 100 footer, and that was it, he was there to 'get a feel', and once he felt it, hung up his firesuit for the weekend. he was there for the whole class, to get a better idea for his business on what the cars felt like. one run was enough. He didn't care for it at all.

Don't worry Joe, I'm not questioning your manhood.

I'm just sayin', if you actually KNEW what it was like, from grabbing the butterfly, and STOMPING the pedal, it would benefit you immensely, IMHO.

A VERY fast street car, has NOTHING on an alcohol funny, or a super class car either. Just because you drive fast, does not mean you will have an easy time of it..........then again, you MIGHT find out you are a 'natural'

Well, gotta' get back to sleep:D

Jerry-what does that Snake guy know-it's not that he's still racing nitro cars and what the hell does it matter that he had been racing nitro cars for over 40 years when he made that comment?
And im sure you know much more........Hush you arent worth anymore of my time..LOL

I didn't see the Sunday show, but watched the rebroadcast last night. Unless ESPN2 cut out the interview, I saw no whining at all. Only whining I see is here in this thread by people that have not ever raced or are currently racing a nitro car. I got a nickel that says they don't have the stones to make the comments to the person's face.

I got a hundred bucks..............

Daymn, I would pay a hundred to watch the fool do it:eek::D

get me the ride and hand over the hundred bucks. I may wet myself on the first pass but I'm in :)

How come if a team blows up if its a low buck team people are allways like "Oh they must be using parts past there useby date", Some low buck teams blow up some dont blow up some hi buck teams blow up some dont blow up. I am no expert but wouldn't the tune up have alot to do with it?

... but wouldn't the tune up have a lot to do with it
Actually it's both ,that's why tuning these things is so much fun... ;) it's still liquid dynamite every run...
You have to calculate how many runs the parts will accept your tuning and combination skills...
Your wallet is also a function in the equation as a variable for some folks as is the percentage of Nitro to mix...
Some put two runs on the rods, some put six , in either case ... maybe it goes ... maybe it blows ...

See, you can relate.......you, 'got it', through the actual DOING!

THAT, is the "excellent" part.

No matter if you are a Pro, a 'weekend warrior', or only been down a track in a FAST machine once or twice, we all understand what is going on in the cockpit, we relate, and are a little slower to point fingers.

Before I went to the school, I raced a low 11 sec ET bike at Connecticut Dragway (RIP:( ) often. I figured that 'prepared' me............LOL, BOY!!!, was I EVER wrong:eek:

Going to Franks, was such a great thing, I even applied some of the mental aspects of his philosophy to my business, and, IT WORKED!!

Can't say enough good about it, glad you had the experience too.

When was the last time you priced Frank Hawley's school? S/C-S/G were like $1,500 from what I heard. Can't imagine what TAD/TAFC are?

You have to start there.

No more pay and drive like I did.

Try the S/C car. it'll blow you away.

I'm driving an eight second altered this year, and it is one HELL of a ride.

BTW, I think the Alky course is $9500.

But the cars are good for 5.80's

That is why I'm driving this year, I want to 'brush up', and go back.

you only live once;)

REX

I've been wanting to get to Hawley's for a long time. $1500 for a SC license is a bargain, when considering the investment one has to make to own even a Super class car.
