You want some whine with that cheese?

I know my memory is bad, but I don't recall Densham blowing up in a few outtings and he out qualified TP this last weekend. Compare his budget to TP's. Maybe something due to the run count on the parts.

bingo!!!!!!!!

First off, I didn't look for a link, didn't have to.

I still have several billion surviving brain cells left.

Got it from memory (remember what that is?)

Force was talking to Tony while they were loading him into the ambulance, and Force repeated what the conversation was about........Tony wanted John to go talk to someone about the violence of the explosions and calming the motors down.

Apparently John didn't, or that was Tony's take, and (this is third hand), Tony felt slighted, and eventually led up to the confrontation at Indy, not the reason per se, but a little added gas to the fire.

Second, I don't "dodge" anyone or anything.

Don't have any reason to.

Look, instead of spending all your money on going to races, and drinking yourself into a coma:rolleyes:, why don't you save some and go to a driving school to get a little 'feel' for actual horsepower, like say, Roy Hill's place. I hear that he is VERY considerate, and LOVES:), to hear 'experts' tell him how to do his job, and how they should be able to drive the way they always knew they could:rolleyes:.

I think the two of you would get along just fine................

A little actual insight would help you tremendously, IMHO.

How big is Matt Hagan's budget?

he had the boomer of all boomers at zMAX, and no, from what I could tell, he didn't enjoy it all that much.

It can happen to anyone, anytime, and dismissing it out of hand, is 'whistling past the graveyard'

Damn, Rex! Nothing like leading the lamb to slaughter!!! ROTFLMMFAO!!!

And yes, I have first-hand experience. Unlike many others I've talked to, it was truly one of the best 4-day stints in my entire life.

Maybe its time to get a new crew chief.;) They haven't swapped one out in a while.
Probably the only person that knows the stat is Lewis Bloom-but of all the fires + explosions in a season, it sure seems Tony + Cruz have FAR more than the average. Maybe they should get a chunk of the $ from all the highlights they're in.:p
I 'll give Tony this-he DID make it to the finals-14 others didn't.

I see some truth on both sides to this.

Tony's butt is in the seat so he probably has a better perspective and a whole lot more on the line then the rest of us.
While ours has always been a sport of increasing speed and innovation, the time for that constant drive may need to stop(temporary or not). Especially if we want to get back to 1320 racing. Things may need to change to slow them a bit and hopefully lessen the blowups

On the other side Tony never seemed to talk about this when he had a larger budget. While yes we have seen other blowups Tony seems to be having more then his share. Could it be budget related? Tuneup?
Also his delivery just leads people to think whine and yes part of that is based on recent history.

With most things the truth is likely somewhere in between

Back in the 90's the changed rear ends and that slowed them for several years.

I attended Hawley's, twice.

TAFC in June '86

TAD in December '86

Actually had an easier time in the FC (weirded Frank out a little, usually it's the other way around).

And while Roy I hear is tougher, Frank does not put up with much.

You screw up, and you WILL be told.

I had aspired to drive, and actually did a little, but the best thing it gives you is understanding and respect, for man AND machine.

That, and I know I can sit in a seven second anything with confidence, and know what to expect, and that is the UNexpected.;)

I've heard a lot of folks bash on Roy for being so rough, but when I went through the Pro Stock deal I can honestly say that all the a$$ chewin' I witnessed was warranted....................all of it.

Kinda' like you said, no matter which way you go, be it Frank's or Roy's, you'll come out of it with much more understanding and respect than when you went in.

AS for driving school, when I win the lottery to afford a $300-400,000 race team I'll get back with you! As for my drinking, never had a DWI and I plan to keep it that way! I think your just pissed that I'm able to travel like I do and enjoy myself at the same time! You may want to re-new that Valium prescription, seems to be running out!

This almost gets TOO easy:D

No, I'm not envious.

I'm self employed, and have a lot of very neat toys to keep me busy.

I USED to go to a race almost every weekend, and to be honest, since I have been going to the drags since 1971, the allure ain't there anymore.

I'll hit a match race or divisional, where i know people racing, but that's about it, you can have the crowds and traffic. No thanks.

What I AM trying to do, is suggest to you, that to gain a higher understanding, go actually DO it.

Put your azz in the seat and learn something.

then when you post, it won't look like someone just spouting off what they saw, or someone told them.

I'm actually attempting to suggest self enlightenment.

A very useful, positive thing.

And an experience you will never forget.

then again, you COULD keep playing the lottery.................

Don't knock the lottery, Rex. As they say you have to be in it to win it. Let's just say if I win the powerball I'll invest in a neat little A/fuel operation.

Until then, I'll continue to be a spectator.

Back on topic, T-Ped really should try getting Kleenex as a sponsor because at this rate he'll be using a box a day with all this "whaa whaa" banter he's spewing.

I think after all the fatalities in nitro in the last few years, Tony would not be dismissed as a "whiner" for discussing the issue.

The current formula seems to include the basic elements for catastrophic and utterly unforeseen things to happen more frequently than in the past.

I really do not enjoy seeing such wonderful machinery getting tore up so much!

It can happen to anybody out there it seems like at any time. I just hope each future incident is unlike anything that ever happened before. Hard to prevent something that has never happened, but stuff with a history can be studied so as to prevent the re-occurrence.

Ditto's Jim (note, I didn't say "Mega";) ), After every 'incident', people here crow and wail about "something has to be done", "these cars are too expensive/fast/dangerous"(or insert verb here_________).

Tony comes out after being IN a massive explosion, and gets thrown under the bus for "whining".......... essentially being called a 'pansy', for agreeing with the basic premise that constantly is being discussed here.

Slow them down, and cut cost and danger. Protect the spectators, and make it possible (don't forget, Tony was against going to 1000'), to return to the 1320, and in turn, lower cost and danger, and the less likelihood of someone getting into the sport (i.e. Terry 'boom boom' Haddock), with limited funds, and risking blowing their budgets........and themselves, to smithereens. Gee........we might even see more fuelers.

what he said..........

you and every single team owner.

I think the "study", is quite complete by now, "yeppers, they sure are blowin' all to beejeezus"............study over.

Time to act, the individual teams will not, the quick will go quicker, and those without resources available to keep up, will eventually kill themselves or someone else trying.

either that or eight owners will wind up owning four teams apiece...........and THAT, will be that.

Then some on the 'mater will crow and wail, "quick, quick, something needs to be done"!!!

Yeah, and I say, "if you don't play, you can't lose"

Yes, and you will continue to sound like one:cool:

Here is my take. Want to take away some of the explosions, outlaw nitro. No matter what pump size, number of mags, compression or blower size, if you run nitro you're still at some point gonna go "Boom". The under funded teams are going to run parts way past where they should of been and that is the chance they are going to take. So once nitro is gone, then what will be some peoples excuse for blowing up stuff? If you are out there taking chances you know you shouldn't, don't complain because you did it and want to blame something or someone else.

Heck, if you switched them all to 87 octane. They would still, at some point, start blowing up again.
