You want some whine with that cheese?

I know I shouldn't get in on this, but what the hell. I think a few people are still pissed at Tony about the Force thing at Indy last year. I have to admit that my love for the Pedregons decreased quite a bit after the comments made toward the Force team. Time has passed and I personally am over it.

As far as those saying TP is a wuss, I'd really have to question that logic - esspecially after the Force deal. If you remember, John was ranting and raving and Tony never flinched. He stood right there - ready for anything. When somebody wants to kick your ass and you just stand up to that person, that ain't a wuss in my book.

When it comes to piloting a Nitro Funny Car, yes - it IS going to blow up at some point. I think Bazemore once said something like, "if you drive a Funny Car, sooner or later it's gonna catch on fire". TP and every other Nitro driver out there knows it eventually will explode. However, being concerned and outspoken about decreasing the chances of sitting in an inferno is in my opinion, not out of line.

I don't know TP as well as some of you do. I spent some time talking with him a few years ago at the PRI Show when he as starting his own team. He was nice to me, that's what I know. I do think some people need to really think about TP's thoughts. God forbid, what happens when TP or somebody else has another Scott Kalitta type of incident? Everybody and their brother is gonna be screaming at the top of their lungs that 'SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE TO THESE FUEL CARS!!!" I think something does need to be done before a Scott happens again. As we have all seen, 1000' hasn't done anything.

I'm no tunner or crew chief but I have worked on a Fuel car and I do know a little bit about them. I not really in a position to offer ideas to calm these car down but I think I do know the right solution. A couple years ago, Dale Armstrong offered his ideas on Competiton Plus. The only thing I've heard about Amstrong's ideas was that people thought they were great ideas - nothing more. NHRA has tried a few things and I understand it really didn't go well. Why haven't they tried Armstrong's ideas?

I don't have the solution but I think whining a about Tony Pedregon's concerns is a little out of line. I keep hearing the same "everything will be fine" line of thought. Everything will be fine until it's too late.

I watched the event, what whining are you referring to? I did hear drivers voicing an opinion. No different than Lucas voicing his opinion about 4 wide or WJ about fuel cars. I do see whining on this forum.

Against better judgment, I too will throw in my 2 cents. My personal gripe with the "whining" is this...if you are in a line of work, and you KNOW it's literally gonna blow up in your face, and this upsets you enough to get on national television and say something has to be done, you need to do one of two things. #1 Get a new job. I get this is your job, but if you can't come to terms with the danger, fix it or get out. This cannot be the ONLY job in America you are qualified for. #2 Be the change you want to see. Have an idea, put it into practice. YOU cannot always wait for someone else to fix YOUR problem. That goes for TP and anyone else.

Fire away

I don't remember him marching in front of the Camera saying NHRA needs to do something about these bombs Known as Funny cars! If you can find a link I'd like to see it!

No...........He was in an AMBULANCE:rolleyes:

He said it to John Force though, and Force repeated it on the broadcast,

Go take it up with John:cool:

...Why haven't they tried Armstrong's ideas..

Because it requires a complete parts and combination change and tear-down for tech to check compression with an inspector in the pits between rounds to make sure the compression isn't changed...
Dale was one of only a few tuners that ran quite low compression and high percentage back in the day...
With the 90% deal, compression is much higher and would work better with one mag and less blower...

I agree.

You can't expect the other competitors to say "Okay, little Tony is scared, lets slow them down just a teency bit so little Tony doesn't go pee pee in his pants".

Particularly when all the other guys aren't blowing their cars to smitherines every other race.

Something needs to be done in Tony's car, tune up, set up, etc to solve HIS problem. Maybe NHRA will take the route of Haddock and say "Sit it out a few races till you figure out how to go down the track without the Safari rolling all the time.

Just a thought and take it for what it's worth. Have every fuel crew chief document the tune up of every run and submit it to the NHRA PRIOR to the run. The run data from the computer AFTER the run would also be given to the NHRA. The tune up and post-run data would then be downloaded into one of those computer thingies and after a thousand or so runs (and some explosions, I'm sure) the data would be looked at and maybe something will surface as to what might be causing these big bangs.

Every crew chief has their own idea as to what's causing these explosions. They need to do some real analysis.

That's the only thing I can come up with.

Maybe the stat guy could head this project.

Maybe Tony's complaints are what we need to get a more serious look into this problem. At least some one is speaking up.

Does anyone think tony may be running his parts a little longer then when he had better funding? Thus causing engine failure more often?

You may not like where the message came from, but what he said is true.

If you want to bird dog a lesser funded about what it cost to run one of these cars/team. Then you outta put the lube down and do the same to the higher funded teams.

Also, some of you need to give the keyboard a rest and grab a wrench or better yet, plop down your credit card. Otherwise drive yourself to the hospital and ask the doctor why everytime you say something, sh*t runs out from underneath your pants leg.

i think hes right tho... something has to be done to slow them down and make them less combustible...

He is right and he is only saying what the Snake said two years ago. Of course the crew chiefs don't want to change things-not many people voluntarily change how they do their jobs unless they are forced to in order to stay with the competition or they can increase profits or income if they change. Now ask the team owners if they wouldn't like to see changes that would reduce costs and oh yeah, isn't Tony P a team owner?

Remember that if boomers raise costs too much, we'll be down to 8 car fields in no time-then who'll be whining?

Bernstein's deal with CoPart is for this year only-if they don't see value, that's it!

What was it that Snake said after the change to 1000 ft......6 months they will be blowing up again!

Jerry-what does that Snake guy know-it's not that he's still racing nitro cars and what the hell does it matter that he had been racing nitro cars for over 40 years when he made that comment?

Tony you guys seem to make it down track without blowing up, what are you guys doing that's different! Granted you don't run as many races as he does, but the few races you do run at you guys do pretty good. And I doubt you have T Ped's Budget either...

...

we have a winner!!!!

Hey Jenn....did you get new pipe or getting out??

New pipe more or less. We'd initially put everything up so my bro could by a house and whatever sold we'd just move drivers around. Some other things worked out so we didn't have to sell anything but we've got 2 brand new Corvette roadsters hanging from the rafters that we'd like to get together and out.

Everythings always been for sale anyway. Learn not to get too attached to things.
