My real true instinct says Whit Bazemore. He is in the same boat as Doug but has had a bit more success, there may not be any driver better than win. You Want Personality, great driving, and great r/t's: WHIT!

If Not Whit, I would put Doug Herbert in. His time to win is slipping away. He's one of tf's best on the tree.

Bottom line, the driver should have something to offer and money should never play a role. The driver should of had a career that has deserved him a chance to drive for AJR. It has to be a driver that everyone was sorry he hired, and not just a driver that filled a void. I hope i'm not disappointed.

Even Hillary Will would be deserving of it. Her resume is short, but she has proven her talent with r/t's and driving.

Its BB......;)

I cannot support your pick. I been knee deep in stats lately with my book. I finished BB section, I do not feel he deserves it. I will speak my opinion and I will thank everyone for not attacking me, after all stats do not lie.
Yes he can drive, but this is a driver who left first 39.9% of the time in his overall career, never having a season better than 60% of the time. TF is pretty even and it's now become a driver class again, you either have a good rep at the tree, or I do not feel putting a driver like that in an AJR car would win rounds only if it outran, BB has horrible stats on the tree and close races would be many holeshot losses. Yes I am a fan of BB, I root for him, but sorry i do not think he deserves his name picked out of the magic hat.

He would be my choice for the ride if his r/t's were at least average, he is so predictable on the tree, He could of had more success in tf with better lights, 2004-2008, you had tim and kim, if that could not motivate him what could.

I like the Duane Shields idea ... would not be the first time AJ dipped into the Alky ranks (when the Winston car came out in '97 I was like Gary who?) ... and Duane could bring a few bucks if he had to, he has funded his own AFueler for years.

Also offered without comment or judgement:

The Sheik will not have a woman in one of his racecars.

If not Scelzi then how about a good Alky class shoe like Demke or even Bellemure. Good leavers. Try out some new fuel blood.

Scelzi would be my #1 choice but if I remember correctly he left AJ in the past. Didn't he?

Alan Johnson made those guys HOF drivers, in my opinion.

I am different than most here. I like the Morgan Lucas/AJ rumor.

Seems kind of coincidental that KB quits the sport and leaves Brandon hanging at the same time Del is retiring. Maybe Shannon is right on his pick.

Maybe he can get Big Daddy to come out of retirement. :D

Or Eddie Hill!

I really don't know who will end up in that seat. Maybe the NHRA should just make AJ run that thing with a remote control! He'd probably still win the Championship.

JMO here..
I would hope that it's not another ho-hum pick like J.R or Melanie, or the rest of the retreads posted..
No disrespect, they are nice drivers, but who really cares out there in TV land about the same old tired storyline re-run except the few who know them personally, or the few who are fans of them?

Over they years, there were hundreds of drivers who "shoulda" had the seat, but were moved out by more interesting prospects, so I never am a fan of a certain person just because they've been around the block. There's a TON of unprospected, championship caliber winning talent in the Sportsmen classes that would be Scelzi/Fuller-like perfect for the job.

I think it should be a fresh story, a fresh face, a new exciting prospect that interests people. Hopefully an exciting racer who is unbelievably excited, and has paid the dues and deserves a shot. And please, not another Force style nepotism driver who have to be trained on how to buckle up properly and how to adjust their hair color and lipstick shade for the right cloud cover. I think people see right through that stuff quite easily, and it makes it so easy to turn the channel..

Bingo....We have a winner! Great Crewchiefs make good drivers IMO! Anybody want to guess where John Force's legacy would be had Austin Coil NOT hooked up with him in '87-'88? Or Dale Armstrong with Bernstein in 1983-84? Look at happened to WJ once Greg Anderson left?

Now having said that...sure you need an experienced Driver who can peddle out a win, or Pull out a Holeshot win once in awhile. But if the performance isn't there, the wins will be slim and none!

It would be nice to have Tommy Johnson jr back full time....but I can see Brandon Bernstein get the ride before Tommy Johnson jr.

With the Sheik providing the money, I can't see Melanie Toxel get the ride. she is plenty capable, but I don't see that happening
