so will NHRA let them go 350mph next year and do the teams really want too?? (19 Viewers)

I have been told that if they removed the timing retarder that they could hit 350 plus already. Maybe that is incorrect but it certainly seems believable. I am surprised they haven’t tried to slow them down yet honestly. If the track has an adequate shutdown I say let em rip, but I see both sides.

I’m betting if someone does hit 350, Goodyear and/or NHRA’s insurance company will quickly step in and demand an immediate change to the rev limiter to slow the cars.
It might even happen before then.

NHRA seems to do something every offseason to slow down the cars on track. I have zero knowledge of what they will do to slow them down but I’m sure they will make minor tweaks to the current rules. We all love seeing barriers broken and seeing new records, but we don’t want to see broken cars and wounded drivers. A few experts in the pro mod class are predicting we will see 5.50’s this weekend. I’m excited for it but new rule changes will follow in 2027 to put them back into the high 5.60’s.

What are the differences between tires nitro teams use vs tires top alcohol teams use?

I believe TF and AA/FC typically run 36X17.5x16 tires; the alcohol classes, 34.5X17.0X16. The tire compound itself differs, each tailored for their respective class.
The A/Fuel cars typically run the same Goodyear tire as the TF/FC’s. Blown cars will usually run the shorter Hoosiers.

pretty sure the 330mph mark was eclipsed way back in feb. of 1999.
and the 320 mark was broken in 96 or 97. only 2 or so years from 320 to 330.
then it took 25 years until tasca broke 340 @ pro shootout in 2024.
now langdon is almost @ 347 two years later.
it's rather mind boggling.

I would much rather see them tweak the current specs on the fuel cars to get less tire smoking runs and more side by side racing like the cars are welded together. We saw both of those at the MI race and it kinda puts the driver ahead of the crew chief in what is winning races.

Let’s go ahead and let them get to 350, then let’s slow ‘‘em down so we get all the good stuff back ie long smoky burnouts, fire in the pipes, dry hops, then let’s get Nitro back to 98% so they can start chasing 260 all over again

First of all..........Only wifey can call me a retard.........Next.....Yeah...I can see 350 next year...I also heard on WFO ??...If no retard could probably run close to 360....Holy Chit Batman...

The 330 was run at Firebird, think it was Tony Schumacher. I was there, was a shock. I think the 320 mark was at The Plex. Driver? I saw that on a live feed. Maybe Cory Mac???
Cory Mac did indeed become the first driver over 320 at the Motorplex in 1997. I’ve got a picture that I took of the scoreboard from my seat in the stands after that run. Finding the picture, though, is going to be a challenge.

Since we have REV limiters and set gear ratios, perhaps the speed is coming from harnessing the spinning tires on the final third of the track. AR frequently told us a TF car spins the entire length of the track. Maybe Brian H figured out how to truly go one to one. A friend who used to sponsor a TF car once told me about a phenomenon where air stacks up in front of a car instead of passing cleanly by it. Maybe they have discovered how to manage this air and get it around and past the car.
