What a sad day. :( Evel seemed larger than life to this 70's kid. I don't think anybody will ever match his showmanship skills, the guy was the best! I knew he hadn't been in good health for a while but it's still hard to believe. RIP Evel.

Re: US daredevil Evel Knievel dies

Rest in peace Evel.

Robby Knievel, and those like him are awesome, don't get me wrong, but modern computer technology and so forth make his stunts a little less awe inspiring than Evels were...

Re: US daredevil Evel Knievel dies

This is terrible. I have been a fan of Evel's for many years and this just breaks my heart. Just a couple weeks ago, Evel sent me one of his signed business cards.

RIP EVEL

Dave

Less than 2 months after the Caesar's Palace crash he was in Albuq. for an exhibition at a local Circle track. I remember that well!:D

r.i.p evil. i used to love watching his prime time jumps on tv as a kid!
Me too Jeff. I remember watching all his big jumps on Saturday afternoons, the guy MADE Wide World of Sports! You always had to wait thru Acapulco cliff diving or figure skating, but it was always worth it. I had the wind up motorcycle and lunchbox too! RIP Robert Knievel

Does everyone know the answer to the trivia question "who filmed Evel's catastrophic leap over the fountains at Caesar's Palace in 1967?"

Man, that guy was my hero when I was 10 years old. My buddies and I used to set up our Tonka trucks (anybody from Minnesota will know what I'm talking about) and jump them on our bikes emulating Evel.

R.I.P. Mr. Kneivel.

RIP Evel.

What do you think he has already made a bet with God he can jump heaven?

I used to have the Evel Knievel Super Stunt Cycle

He's been sick for a while now. A true american hero in my opinion. Part of his pre-jump speech was always talking down on drugs, alcohol & tobacco. He'd stand there on the ramp and tell kids over the P.A. to get an education, love God and your family and give to the needy. I had the opportunity to see him run twice in Detroit; once back in the early 70's, he jumped some cars at Motor City Dragway, and several years later with Robbie at the Silverdome. He & Garlits always were my 2 favorite "stars" from the 70's. He was a good man.

I loved everything about him he was my hero too. He was Harley Dvidson to me. He was the first in motorsports to tour in a semi. He knew how to do it.

I too remember how much He was a part of our everyday live's in the 60s, Evel Knievel was like Batman, only He was REAL, I remember watching Him in northeast Ohio as a kid, We were like...."I saw Evel Knievel at dragway 42 this weekend", there were 32 nitro funnycars and of course Art Arfons had the "Green Monster" out for a "test" run. Those were rare times... rare but it was THE talk of the schoolyard on monday. And EVERYONE knew SOMEONE who knew Evel Kenivel OR Art Arfons (HE was our hometown Hero) It was so funny.....My Uncle knows Evel Kenivel and Art Arfons, (actually it was My Grandpa that knew them both, but who would admit that at six years old??) I'm glad He lived a full life....RIP Evel

According to Wikipedia, the person filming that footage of his crash at Caesar's was the actress Linda Evans! She was dating the producer of the event(Actor John Derek) at the time, and they we're so tight on budget. ABC's Wide world of Sports didn't offer what they were asking for to air it live, until they saw the footage than paid more than they originally offered.

A true LEGEND has passed and made his way to the pearly gates of Heaven! Enjoy the rest of your eternity EVEL...You sure as heck made a difference while on this little planet!!

Amazing that a guy who jumps things with a "HEAVY BIKE" can make such an impact on people huh? He sure did to me. He was Mr. HARLEY DAVIDSON to me as well. He was Mr. Showmanship to me. He is a TRUE AMERICAN ICON like..

COKE...(I always order a coke even if it's a Dr. Pepper I'm ordering!)
KLEENEX....(No matter what tissue paper we use..we call it a KLEENEX)
EVEL KNIEVEL....(anytime someone does a stunt, or daring...we say....HE WAS LIKE EVEL KNIEVEL!)
