Pomona or Vegas? (2 Viewers)

Been to both Spring and Fall races at both Vegas and Pomona for many years now. Vegas is the state-of-the-art track in the best playground around. Pomona is kind of like a pilgrimage to Mecca, I think every drag racing fan needs to go at least once in their life. If only to check out the museum and to see racing on "hallowed ground".

cool deal...

I'm going to start pricing flights and rooms over the weekend and see what deals I can get.

Be sure to stay at one of the big casinos, Monte Carlo always has JFR folks staying there, New York New York is usually where Bersteins stay, etc.... If you've never had the opportunity to meet these folks outside the racetrack this is a great opportunity to meet them when they are just hanging out. Just a thought, if you're going to do it up you might as well go for it!! Have fun!! :D

I remember several years ago one of Justin Humphreys' guys put on a bullfighter outfit and waved the cape in front of the car during the burnout. Seemed a bit dangerous to most people!

Not near as dangerous as waving it in front of a real bull.

Thats what i was thinking... are you looking to spend lots of $$$ on adult intertainment. Or do you want to see the best that NHRA has to offer. If its about the racing.. go to Pomona. History is what im there for. We dont even hit the strip anymore. Theres no place like pomona for racing.

Who says you have to spend big dollars on adult entertainment just because you're in Vegas. With Vegas we gt to hang out with the racers all week at SEMA. No time for the casinos. Too much to do. What does everyone do for an entire week after the Pomona race is over?
Side note...I definitely want to go to the Pomona race at least once before I die.:D

We run both races....the best bang for the buck would be Vegas,.....all the reasons that a listed and the fact that Pomona will possibly get some Rain!!! just my opinion

I decided to go to Pomona. With other people at work already having vacation time approved for the vegas weekend, I couldn't get it off. But, I got it approved for Pomona weekend.

Any good hotels in the pomona area?

Thanks for the help....the prices I've looked at in the general area for hotel, airfare, and a rental car has ranged from as low as $579 to about a $1000, but have been averaging in the $750 range.

The problem with trying to attend SEMA is that you have to be pre-approved to get in. It requires filling out forms and providing proof of your involvement within the industry. After a few years they have finally let us add other employees to our list. Before that we were limited to just two entries. If you know someone that attends they may be able to add you to their list. Don't know for sure.
Don't forget that the divisional race is usually the weekend following the national event there at Las Vegas. No crowds and usually some real nice sportsman cars.

POMONA
We stayed for the Finals two years ago at Ayres Suites Hotel on Milliken Ave. exit from I-10, midway between Ontario Mills Mall and where Turn 1 of Ontario Motor Speedway once stood. Very comfortable there, breakfast included, plenty eating around and about, easy drive to the track, reasonably priced as I recall.

If you are looking for budget, there is a Motel 6 at 2470 South Garey Ave. in Pomona, just 4 miles south of the track and a straight drive. It never seems to hike its rates during race week, unlike some others in the area, and doesn't book up till much nearer the date, also unlike some others.

The Best thing about Pomona is Hotels/Motels are everywhere, so finding $40-50 per is pretty easy!

Howard Johnson on Indian Hill and 10 fwy in Claremont. 1 block away from that, is Hotel Claremont behind the Denny's/Starbucks.
Motel 6 San Dimas is in a better quality area than the Garey/60 fwy one.
Tons of hotels in Ontario. Quality Inn on Vineyard is good.
