From what I was told, NHRA backed off after Darryl’s lawyers told them if they proceeded with this, then IHRA would file for trademarks on every name that NHRA used that wasn’t already trademarked.

It gets really interesting in the music business, like when one artist is accused of ripping off another artist.....sometimes, it's just a chord progression, and how do you copyright a chord progression??

because the 2nd artist who used the 1st wasn't the artist who created it. i think it is great that music, other arts, and intellectual property
is protected in this manner.

Oh I agree completely, but a chord progression is, in my view, something difficult to lay a claim to, certainly outside a larger context.

Then we get into covers, satire, and spoofs (think Weird Al). Can get pretty complex, esp without credit/royalties. It's interesting how juries come down on these.
