You are really splitting hairs here. The racetrack is part of the LA County Fairplex, they own the land. NHRA has a long term lease and paid for all the improvements that are the racetrack. Did Charlie Allen own Firebird? He didn't own the land, but the racetrack was considered his.

You can't assume they knew about the track when they bought/rented the house. This is the general public we're talking about. They're so wrapped up in themselves and how good they look to everyone on Facebook that they probably never even thought to inquire about things like that. They were too worried about selfies and posting pics of their new house <roll eyes>
Wasn't much better at 11 am. Crowd was very sparse. Weather may have had something to do with it. We had no trouble finding our choice of seats on the east side at around 600 feet all day long.

Wish the races were that dead when i go lol,i hate crowds.
The Fairplex leases it from L.A. County who then leases the NHRA part of it.
I don't look at it as splitting hairs. If you have a landlord you do not own it. Granted NHRA has a much better landlord than Charlie Allen ever had with the Tribe. If the lease is canceled, what does NHRA end up with? Electronics and the grand stands if they are worth moving?
Like the NHRA never lied to anyone before. A little research will get you there.

I can certainly own the business without owning the land it sits on. I have no inside knowledge of the NHRA agreement except that I understand it is long term. NHRA would have never made the investment to build the facility as it is today if they were going year to year. And long term lease deals that I have been involved with there has always been some type of agreement that if the lease is cancelled the land owner will reimburse the cost of permanent improvements.
If I lease a lot and build a shop then you cancel my lease, you have to buy the building from me. If I can take it with me that's different, but permanent improvements are not just walked away from. At least not in my personal experience.
The relationship between Charlie and the tribe is a different deal, the point being that Charlie owned the business.

100% correct. Charlie would have never got anything back, that why he wouldn't spend much. L.A. County is not ruthless like the Tribe.

Alan is right on the Pomona deal. The land is owned by the Los Angeles County and leases it to the Los Angels County Fair Association who then sub-leases it to the NHRA. NHRA owns what's on the land.
The same situation happens at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway where the land is owned by the Kern County Airport Authority who leases it to the NHRA, who then sub-leases it the John and Blake Blowser; the managers of the track.
