It looks like there are always a lot of empty seats on both sides so I may not buy tickets in advance? What do you guys think? Id be there Friday and Saturday.

I've never had to buy in advance, but I normally sit further downtrack than you want to sit, so I can't speak for the reserved stuff up towards the starting line. But even then, I can't imagine it being that much of an issue.
I haven't been there for a few years but it used to be most of the spectator side seating was general admission. I never bought advanced tickets for Sunday and never had a problem finding a good seat.
I haven't been in a few years but I sat inside the bowl, (near the tower where the seats curve and meet the tower) Good down track view and you get to see what's going on before the fire them up. Long walk from car to pro pits and yes the anti-cooler and carrying much of anything else rule is annoying but all rules can be circumvented with a little ingenuity
Bought ticks to the RT66 club in the tower, free food all day, 3 free Beers, A/C, can always wander over and sit in general admission which looks to be almost never crowded. I will miss the Pro Mods though, will catch them at Indy

My brother and his wife talked me and my wife into the TEC last year in Houston. Now I can't go to the races without getting that kind of deal for my wife..............
