It's a general question,he wrote it as if in live conversation.

I think fans of our sport would like to know.Maybe not down to the red penny, but a general idea.A "in the ballpark" figure would probably suffice.I'm sure there would be a lot of variables, such as size of crew, sponsorship dollars etc.,but you get the picture.

The sport wants to be a player with other venues, most of us have an idea what a Nascar driver makes on some deal,NFL,NBA,MLB players salaries are announced, why not the NHRA teams give a rough summation??

No offense to Alan, or anyone esle, but I don't see where this is an off the wall question. We know how much NFL, MBL, NHL, PGA, etc players make - you can find their exact salaries anywhere online, heck they were even broadcast on TV and radio well before the 'net became the go to source for any and all information (true or not).

I believe NASCRAP still gives you a tally of per race earnings for all the drivers at each race.

Here's one from 2005 for the year: Nascar Driver Earnings: 2005 Yearly and Weekly Earnings

Here's a year by year report for Dale Jr: Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Career Statistics - Racing-Reference.info

The only thing the original poster was asking for was a rough idea of what they get paid.

Brian that's what the car earned for any given race, not what Dale's salary is. Big difference.

Read the title of the thread again. It's not a general question. And if you want to know what I make, I'm selling copies of my tax return for $10,000.00 CASH!

Alan

Settle down Alan. It's just a general question, re-read the title, and it's something I would also like to know.

Who in their right mind would pay for this guys tax return? :D

guess it's a generational thing... I was brought up not to ask nor is it polite to enquirer about a person's compensation... The question is tacky and uncalled for... bragging about your salary is debase and not done if you have any class... which is why I have no respect for stick and ball employees...

Ok Here is why I ask....

Let's say that a person is going to apply for a job in a new industry. While in the interview, they are asked about their salary desire. If they have NO CLUE where to start, they're gonna look pretty freakin stupid in the interview.

And NO ALAN...IT'S AN EXTREMELY GENERAL QUESTION. Did I ask what Shoe makes..Or Jack..ROBERT HIGHT,..Or any individual! Hell No! Your response to that "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS" would be valid, if it were Directed at (1) or (2) People in general. But, In general what are the salary structures?

"LOOK AT THE THREAD NAME..."?

OK..."EXACTLY HOW MUCH DOES A Pro Driver make?"

I apoligize if I CROSSED A LINE THAT SHOULDN'T BE CROSSED, but I've always been curious if anybody knew. And Yes, I know a few pro drivers, but LIKE YOU SAID ALAN..ASKING AN INDIVIDUAL IS NONE OF MY BUSINESS, and I NEVER WOULD ASK THEM WHAT THEY MAKE.

I Guess that Question is just TABOO! Won't happen again!

Timmah!

I think it's a good question Tim. You know the average salary of an MD, Lawyer, etc. What's the big deal about asking what the average is for a pro driver. I think I'm in the same generation as Karl and I see nothing wrong with the question.

You're not asking what an individuals salary is.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the ?.If you were asking about a specific persons salary then that's more personal.

If the question was Generally instead of Exactly, I would have taken it different... if I was looking to be employed as a Driver, I'd speak privately with other drivers and know what my needs are... and I have no clue what a MD or Lawyer makes a year, nor do I care....

but, on the other hand, I'd drive for Two K a weekend, plus room, board, transportation, and medical...

Bill,

I don't even know how much Jack's deal is worth. Of course, I've never bothered to ask because it's none of my business... and I think Jack respects that fact.

Jack and I have had conversations regarding the "deals" pro drivers have, not necessarily dollar figures... but I think most people would be stunned at how they really are.

Exactly what Greg Said...SAME THING HERE! Just trying to get a ballpark figure for a project I am working on.

I agree with you on that Karl. I told Greg Anderson when I retired I would work for him and Jason for free plus pay my own expenses. I'll find out next year if he accepts my offer. Doesn't everyone need a 'gopher'?
