Steve wasn't one of the best. He WAS the best, and together with Dave McClelland, was a duo that will never be beat. Those guys were pretty near perfect, and I sorely miss them both. /QUOTE]

Steve Evans is the best ever, period. Nobody else comes close.
Steve had a passion for the sport most people just do not have. I think part of what made him so good, was he was a promotor, track announcer, all of the above. He had seen it all, and done it all. Even the drivers had a ton of respect for Steve, and just that by itself made the interviews better.


Steve was even awesome in movies...Check him out in More American Graffiti-- If you never seen it, this is ALL the drag racing stuff put into one video (skip the rest of the junk).
Steve is in and out the entire time, but his main parts are @ 18:35 and 22:00 through 25:00. I tell you, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. NOBODY else could of done it any better, not even close.

Come on you guys, the only way that there will be any acknowledgment of Steve Evans' contribution to drag racing will be to provide adequate (non-NHRA) funding.
