To everybody complaining about Bob & Alan repeating phrases or sayings. You have to remember that we hear these guys almost every week.
The average fan hears them once or twice a year.
I have announced races, ball games and worked in radio. It is extremely hard to think of new things to say every time you are on the mike.
I have been in the stands and heard people say how funny Bob or Alan were when I have heard the joke 100 times. It is still funny or witty, I am just exposed to it more often.
If you watch old videos of Dave or Steve they had favorite sayings they repeated. It is just the personality of whoever is announcing.
However, if Bob or Alan every say "Boggity, Boggity, Boggity" I will turn on them myself.
Bob is one of our "Voices of Drag Racing". He spends a lot of time not only getting to know all of the racers he speaks about, but is a walking encyclopedia of drag racing trivia. Can't believe this post has even made it on here.
Bob frey is the best announcer they have left, especially doing it live. As far as TV coverage goes I would like to see Bob and Dunn do, along with Reif (sp). Nobody would like to try and fill Mac and Evens shoes but he has done a good job.
Mike Lewis always did a good job. He's also a heck of a golfer...or at least he is capable of linking himself up with a couple ringers in a foursome for a scramble tournament.
Gotta go...Barrett Jackson is on right now and I want to see how much my '57 Corvette Fuelie has tanked.
I believe you're correct. I believe he also called the famous 1970 US Nat'ls when Snake announced he was "never racing again" after Jim Nicoll's front end skidded past him in the shutdown area after the final.
I really enjoy Bob's commentary. I suspect he has forgotten more about drag racing facts than most people on this forum will ever know. Unfortunately I don't see in the near distant future any team commentary that could hold a candle to Steve Evans and Dave Mac.
Bob Frey ROCKS. The guy has probably forgotten more about Drag Racing than all of the keyboard crewchiefs on here even know (myself included). What are you proposing? Drop Bob for more Paul? Paul SUCKS!!! I want to donkey punch the guy every time I hear him say "Bob Vandergrith". The nsally little whine has NOT improved his ignorance of drag racing over the past several years even though he's gotta eat a lot of crap over his misinformation from drivers, fans and teams alike. There is NO chemistry between him and Mike Dunn, in fact, there have been times when I could swear MIKE wants to donkey punch him, it shows in his face all the time that he wishes he could puch Paul out of the tower on his ass. You're right, Bob Frey isn't Steve Evans or Dave Mac, and he doesn't try to be. Bob is just Bob. He's genuine, and the real article. He doesn't try to be someone else, and if he ever WAS scripted by a producer, it has sure fooled me over the years, I could never tell. He shoots from the hip, respects the fans as equally as the drivers, teams and sponsors and brings a refreshing vibe and attitude to the sport, a sport you can tell he trully loves.
So if you still believe Bob Frey needs to hang up his mike for good, BITE ME. He goes, I go.
