Some people just have to ***** and gripe about something all the time......Ive known Bob personally for over 20 years and he is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet, and his knowledge of drag racing is 2nd to none.
No kidding, right on..... Why even bother to make a thread on this??
So I can ramble on.. here we go, look what you started Bob.
Now.. PP sucks to no end, my wife can't even stand him. Wait, I guess that makes us no better then Bob P...lol oh well.
Lock him in a room for a month with all the diamond P footage, record books, and National Dragsters for the last 25 years, and I'll give him a quiz when he comes out. If he fails, back in the room for another month. I know, people will say, it don't matter what he knows from then, it matters how he delivers it now as it happens.... (insert cricket noises here)
My take is this.. People in the booth and the top end (If Gary Georald asks one more driver what there satisfaction level is at the top end, I'll scream) need to have "the passion" and/or have been there done that.
By passion I mean drag racing is IT. Been around it, know about it, live it.
Steve Evans had "the passion" Just listen to him in More American Graffiti or Heart Like a Wheel. Scripted races, probably scripted lines, and we all knew what was going on, but they way he presented it just made it better. I don't know how to explain it, but it's great. It will never be matched.
Dave McClelland has "the passion"
Bob Frey has "the passion"
Alan Reinhart has "the passion"
I really think Marty Reid was getting there...he was into it.
Mike Dunn has been there/done that
That's about it.
Mike is much better then Cruz or Shelly was.
John Kernan, Nascar guy, but a breath of fresh air. Little more drag racing knowledge, and he'd fit right in.
I dare to compare to Nascar (hear me out, flame me later)
Darrell Waltrip, Larry McReynolds, Jeff Hammond, Mike Joy from FOX. I enjoy every second of these guys in the booth. I am not a HUGE nascar fan, but I think everybody that has to do with any racing show has to watch how these guys do it. They get along well, KNOW the sport, and have all been there done that. Darrell has driven, and Larry and Jeff, great winning crew chiefs. It just flows well. Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett were also great. They didn't go to school to become TV people, they just know the sport and call it how they see it. It's back to the passion again. All them guys are/were a delight to watch.
Anyway... Keep Bob in the tower, keep Alan on top end.
Keep Mike Dunn in the booth......MAYBE keep Dave Rief around only becasue he has been around it for so long now..but other then that.....
Ok enough is enough.
