- jag bar / pallet fire / ticki bar / bud corner / repeat
- friday night in zoo seemed funner than sat. night
- new security @ BIR this year - they were great, and so were fans, very
few problems over entire week according to sec. guy @ 5pm yesterday
- usual cast of high profile racers/owners having too much fun
- did not hear if morgan lucas defended his rick-shaw title?
- mechanical bull rite next to rick-shaw track was a riot to watch
Couple of my notes and experiences as Bill Clinton through the zoo this weeknd
Bud corner now known as Lucas Oil corner (assuming because of Bud leaving the NHRA) - Was totally empty Saturday evening
The rickshaw area was totally dead every time I drove past it
Seemed like the new place to be is in the very back of the zoo. I saw Brandon Bernstein and Allen Johnson back there (AJ made me stop so that he could take a pic).
The BIR security - Ive heard they were great, and for the most part they were cool. Only a few power trippy guys (usually the ones with the walkie talkies) 1. Got called in for pulling wheelies early Friday (notice they got registration numbers on the ATV passes so they can log your infractions - you get 3 strikes then your out, I got one called in). I got a warning for speeding by the guard at the entrance with the goatee (I understand getting the warning, but the way he pulled us over and gave a minute long speech was lame). I was following a group of dudes on a party wagon asking for a beer. They went to get me one so as they were I was following right up on the back. A guard came up and goes "What do you think you are doing?" in this power trippy voice. I said Im just getting a beer from my friends. He goes "next time pull over". (again, appreciate the warning, but the tone and way he talked to us irked me - us, the dudes in the wagon couldn't believe it either.
But the vast majority of the security was awesome. I was talking to this one guy for 10 mins Friday and continued to screw around with him all of Saturday. Pulled a wheelie for two guards in a cart who were cool. Also some of the guards were waving and having fun. Overall they were great, but just those few guys who rubbed me the wrong way.
Walking to meet a friend at the back of the zoo, I hitched a ride on a golf cart. After a few mins of joking with them I noticed it was a nice golf cart. I asked "are you guys part of some crew?" The driver said I am, but this guy is a driver. I didn't recognize him, but it was Vince Nobile. Nice guy, it was his first race. I told him I remember his dad was a huge IHRA guy and asked where he was. Turns out he was in the cart behind us having cart trouble. They pulled aside to fix the problem when I got to shake John's hand and say thanks for the memories.
The clinton mask and suit was awesome! I lost track of how many pictures with people I got... and for every girl who wanted a pic I had them sit on my lap on the ATC. At one point I had two girls on each leg and a dude on the back popping the wheelie - I looked later and saw the wheelie bar was bent. Generally the older the people it seemed the cooler they were. I jumped in that bathtub car and got a pic with this 60 year old lady who was just having a blast.
Can't wait for next year! I have some great ideas. Overall a great weekend!
