Heard on the news a "heat wave" in MN next week. Must be time for Brainerd! Just need a violent thunderstorm sometime Friday or Saturday afternoon.

hoping BIR has exit gate at far end of spectator side bleachers (finish line)
this year / last couple of years entrance to these bleachers was at about
half track - can't imagine that meets code if spectator were injured or hurt
and needed medical attention or worse yet to be taken by ambulance.

one entrance/exit to set of 1/8 mile long bleachers does not make sense
to me.

Mike. Do me a favor. If you happen to get down to the far end of the strip, take a look and see if they left the barriers in place from the road race on July 4th. If they're still there, the use of turn 1 as an emergency runout is not possible. I have to think they moved them for this race.

19 FC and 16 TF, not bad! The alcohol classes are light though. Why have those counts been going down so far in recent years? Are they switching to Pro Mod? Do you see Pro Mod becoming a full time class in the near future? Last time I saw a Pro Mod run Scotty Cannon was still the king.

It seemed like 2005 was the last good year for TA/FC...Manzo,Newberry,Payne,Moats were all there along with more.

I might be wrong but last year seemed like the first year the TAFC field was short. This year it is well short, same with TAD. Thats what makes me wonder if everyone is switching to pro mod or something.

Great example of how they used to line up the cars/haulers in the BIR pits in single file order(cuz they were pitted on the road course) instead of the side-by-side formation that is the standard now. Instead of walking thru the pits and seeing only the rear-end of the hauler and car, you got to see the entire length of the operation. A very fond memory of the way it used to be.

the pro cars continued into turn one as their stopping point, at which
point the car would be towed around the entire circuit and rite back to
pit space already facing rite direction when ready to tow up for next run.

some zoo folk that couldn't quite make it up to track to watch the actual
racing could at least say they still saw every car on 'the track' :p

both youtube videos i referenced in post #35 have been removed from youtube.
anyone here have any idea how or why?.........apparently as well the
the entire 6 video set from that race?

What is "Donnybrooke"?
Donnybrooke Speedway, suffering from financial decline closes it's gates at the end of the 1972 racing season. The Speedway, which open in 1968, is on the verge of becoming another Brainerd vacation resort. Sound famlair? The track "reopened" in 1974 as Brainerd International Raceway.
