The pre-stage and stage lights are incandescent bulbs. They have a cool down period after power is cut, meaning they will appear to stay lit after the car has left the beams.
The ambers are LED with no warm-up or cool down time required to illuminate. They light up instantaneously while the incandescent bulbs cool and dim. That is why there appears to be a discrepancy here.
Here in Fullerton there are a handful of traffic lights that have incandescent yellow lights and LED red lights. When the light changes from yellow to red there appears to be an overlap. When the light changes from green to yellow an LED green light goes off instantly while the yellow incandescent takes a second to warm up and light up making it appear that there is a slight delay between the green and yellow.
I am not sure whether the NHRA have the guard beam activated for Top Fuel, but if the guard beam is broken, regardless of whether the stage beam is still broken it will activate the red light, correct?
