Where did you get that picture of the Eastern Raider? Every time I have ever seen the original Eastern Raider it was on fire and parts were falling like rain from under the engine.
Revelle made a model kit with the Eastern Raider, each kit came with a book of matches.;)

LOLOLOL!!! You mean the Eastern Grenader?

Osten what a dumb arse statement from you. If the NFC's are the show they should not have to pay an entry. As far as purse goes well leave that up to the promoter or group to come to an agreement with. Darr you are so wrong about the dry hops dude. Apparantly you did not like the floopers of old. Side by side dry hops are *****in. I realize with the technology today they aren't necessary, but the cars are there to entertain the fans and most nostalgia flopper shows have a good majority of veteran long time fans.
And I forget the guy that said the 32 car field does not have to cost any more, are ya nutz.
open it up so 16 cars run first round and don't get paid for the extra run. That is three runs without getting paid. Ya, maybe you are rich to do that but not to many guys can afford that.
Those 37 cars brought in approx. 25k in entry fee (conservative est). Similar to the march meet and it paid 32 cars.
The extra 16 cars for a 32 car field should cost an extra 20k minimum, and that is doable.

There was at least 600k in revenue (beofre midway and concessions for the CHRR. It did make the NHRA and the Bowser's money.

Man you guy's are brutal. I must have been lucky as except for one crash I've seen the Eastern Raider make plenty of trouble free passes. Never one of the quickest cars but rarely slowing down the show with oil downs.

here it is folks - entertainment + performance.
YouTube - Gary Densham and Kenny Bernstein TF/FC OCIR 1-10-1981

some of you might prefer today's package if you had a choice;
i would not. IMO nitro drag racing could be far simpler, heavy on the nitro,
heavy on yesteryear's format, night racing, more booked in shows,
more burnout-backup babes, bring back cigarette sponsors, coolers
full of beer, announcing that sounds like 'he's gonna' blow his doors off......'

nitro drag racing is sooooo cool, just maybe not as cool as it used to be.
kudos to the sportsman classes, they've changed very little and are the
same pleasure to watch as they were 30-40 years ago.

I, too, miss the flames at idle, the long burnouts, and the dry hops. But remember, this sport was built on performance, and the never-ending search for a lower ET. How about when TF dragsters carried the front wheels a long ways, and smoked the rears the entire 1320? How about the way Pro Stockers would carry the front wheels vs. today's cars? As much as I miss those things, they only went away because they were not the most efficient ways to go from A to B.

can't disagree with you nunzio - it was an exciting time to watch these
cars mature over the years. in my lifetime i've witnessed these cars
increase 100mph and decrease et's by 2 seconds in the 1/4 mile,
it is truly amazing and a testament to the individuals involved with it.

it is so efficient now, they only need 1000' to do it :rolleyes::p

I know there was a heated discussion about this but when Force was wacking the throttle in Redding to try and get his car in reverse that would of been worth the price of admission for me. I was around for the dry hops and loved them and I think it should be in the rule book every car when warming in the pits should have to wack it twice, the fans love it. ok ok I know that is not going to happen.

Thanks Mike, I know things have changed but when you are setting in the stands and a fuel car is warming in the pits it gets everyones attension when someone wacks it. Not as many as there used to be but still enough to keep me and a lot of other long time and I bet frist time fans happy. Getting my ears ready for vegas.

JR, love ya like a brother buddy, but PLEASE keep that pay to get in, and race from free attitude in CA! It won't fly out here. :D

We did dry hops most of the years I drove for Danny, more so at the booked in shows vs the qualify to race show. Danny and I both liked doing them.

See if this link will work

Perhaps, but seems to me most are in it for the love of it. If they were in it for the bucks, they would be doin somethin else.

It's all for the love of it, but in our case, the car has to able to help sustain itself or else it will be parked, as is the case with many other cars. We don't expect to make anything, but we do expect to help offset of the costs of nitro, oil, diesel, plugs, etc.

From this past Saturday in San Antonio, these are what a Nostalgia Funny Car SHOULD look like................:D
