Of coarse not. Can any one say SEATTLE and the infamous lane swap in F/C:rolleyes::confused:

Diving goes back to the early 80's with Larry Minor and Gary Beck!!!! This is all nothing new!!! They did it, they made it obvious, and didn't try to hide it!

I know some you experts are going to say "Who is Larry Minor and Gary Beck?" but trust me!!!!

The very worst part of this debacle is that there will be red lights, sleeping at the tree, tire shake or smoke, broken parts, etc. from competitors trying to win honestly that will now become heavily suspected from every angle as somehow being a bought and sold dive when in fact, they just did what often happens while running on the edge of performance.

It will be extremely interesting to see NHRA fine or penalize under these circumstances.
Talk about poop hitting the fan?

Come on HD Partners, get in and fix this mess soon!

You are correct, Paul. It was at Indy in '85 and Beck needed the points way more than Minor did. Beck's car was surely the superior of the two. They did leave together and was a decent race with Beck ahead at every increment until he broke some gears in the blower drive. Minor got on the brakes hard, did not pull the chutes, but had too much momentum and coasted through the lights at an idle. After race interview had Minor explaining why he did what he did. No trying to hide that one either.

Actually, I think you are thinking of Baton Rouge 1983. Beck was way out of the points in 85.

Well then it happened in '85 too. I just watched the '85 Nationals last evening and after that round, Minor had to go against Garlits and both Minor and Beck were not looking forward to it. They did, however, remove the fuel system from Becks car as it was a bit more "refined" than what Minor was running on his ride. It did no good as the Old Man got by Minor in the next round and went on to collect another U.S. Nationals Wally.

Kurt Johnson at Indy was racing his dad and his dad was leading in points. Kurts car was faster that day but his dad won by a nose. Kurt held up a sign going down the return road that said " I still have job". We later ran into him at a steak house and ask him how he managed to make it look so close. His reply was short shifted 3 gear 300 RPM and it drops a tenth. This was in the 80s.

Did they ever fine Shumacher for not shutting off last year ?

KJ was Rookie Of The Year in 93 but you are correct about the sign.

Doc - are you suggesting that teams not in the Countdown might actually accept payment to dive? - NHRA paranoia could go to a new level!

And . . . just to clarify the diving horn. It's a klaxon (battle stations!), not an ahooga - :D

Only Dimm Light would send a memo like that, but I think everyone will race on the up and up, I don't go to the races to loose.

Why would any team mate not in the chase take out who ever is
in the hunt?

Maybe they should do like basketball, Baseball and every other sport.
If you dont make the playoffs your season is over.

The powers-that-be sure kept the team orders/diving in check. Who'd a thunk it would be so easy to do by just providing a one-lane race track?

Cory Mac sure did have a baaaaad light against Tony in the 2nd round.

hmmmmmmmmmmm.................................

I understand team orders and in the position the guys are in now I cant see how they cant give team orders but I only saw one "dive" yesterday.
