I didn't go over the thread with a fine toothed comb but I think everyone was pretty clear that they are speculating or guessing etc. For libel you have to state something as fact and the other party would have to prove it was untrue. That does not seem to be the case here.

In the absence of facts people are going to speculate.

Hence the key word "potentially." Speculation, guessing, or even wishing aside unless you have factual information about this or any other situation it's best to no throw stones. You never, ever know who's watching and reading.

If Gene Snow can still show his face at a NHRA event, Spencer will always have a shot at getting back in. Money talks. Ironic of the connection there....birds of a feather.

I'm more intrigued by the team itself. While the Sarge and Antron have been world beaters, Massey's car has under performed all year, with the exception of the one win. Don't they share info? I realize there WAS a performance gap between Dixon and Connolly too, but they're a new team and Dave's car has been performing better lately. Massey has been around for a while.

He was a countdown driver, (points go with driver-not the car). So for no one to pick him up & put him in a car to get in the CD, my guess is
no one will touch him next season either. I believe his day is done, unless he fields his own car.

Whole different level of financial comittment, starting and funding a team vs. bringing some money to an existing program.

Say what you want about Spencer, but at this year's Gatornationals (I believe his only win this year), me and pops were invited into the winner's circle to take a picture with Karen Stoffer and her wally.

While I was there I decided to stay and see if I could get pics with all the winners. I was waiting for Spencer to finish up with some people and an official comes over to us and was like, "Do you have a media pass? If not you need to go back behind the gate!" Spencer heard them and said, "It's cool guys they're with me," and the official backed off.

Sucks that he had something going on behind the scenes that cost him his job, BUT he was always a nice and cool guy to us.

It is not my place to go into details of what may or may not have taken place, but I think it is wrong for everyone to assume/speculate that Spencer did some horrible thing that is ruining the rest of his life.

Did anyone consider that he may have made a choice to move in a different direction? I am not saying he did, but if we are going to speculate this could be an option. I know none of you have ever changed jobs or made a career change without being fired so why should Spencer. Not saying he did, just an option.

I haven't been speculating on what happened....but when the news was released it is very hard to think anything other than some sort of "correctable behavior" that wasn't corrected was at issue here

"Spencer Massey was fired Friday by Don Schumacher Racing for an undisclosed violation of team policy, the team said.

The move is effective immediately, the release said. There was no indication of a replacement in the DSR Top Fuel dragster for the remainder of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

"Spencer is no longer with DSR," team owner Don Schumacher said in the release. "He violated a DSR policy and would not correct the violation. I feel badly for members of the team because they will not be able to compete for a world championship or next weekend’s Traxxas Shootout title."

"In 2013, Massey apologized for an alcohol-induced tirade directed at teammate Antron Brown during the awards banquet at the end of the 2012 season.

Massey, who had just lost the championship to Brown in the season finale at Pomona, Calif., directed his comments at Brown during the banquet in Hollywood.

In February 2013, he apologized and said he was receiving counseling.

"I'm in counseling for temper and anger management and trying to learn to handle myself better in public situations," Massey told USA TODAY Sports at the time. "It's something I wanted to do after this happened. If something in the race car makes you angry, you need to figure out a better way to handle it. If this can help me deal with public situations, then I think it will make me a better person."

That would make the press release about violating rules seem out of place then as well as no comment from Massey.

Schumacher made it clear that Massey broke the DSR rules. I would think that was a non-disclosure agreement between DSR and SM. That is no different than what happened between Alan Johnson and Larry Dixon. I think people can speculate as much as they want but you are not going to get any info from DSR or SM. SM can't afford to go up against DSR if there is a non-disclosure and he violates it.
Virgil I don't see DS saying he was fired for breaking the house rules if SM just decided to go another way.
I do agree that whatever he did probably had nothing to do with NHRA. It's Schumachers teams and rules, same as any employer, you break them you lose.

I would hope that you are not naive enough to believe what is included in a press release is fact. They are written public relations pieces by PR people to make the individuals/companies look good. They may be written about an actual event but the facts are usually pretty well skewed.

I understand who's team it is and what he can do. I don't expect DSR ever to admit to what actually took place or why, I just don't believe that Spencer should have all this bad speculation going on about what he may/may not have done.

Since we're all speculating....

What if there is a chance that Spencer was told he's gone at the end of the year to make way for that new girl, and if he was told he had to help her get ready, sign her license etc. and he just said, "screw it" and just up and quit?

I know a few people that if their boss told them they're going to be out the door but first they needed to train their replacement they would tell their boss "up yours, train them yourself" and just leave!

Don, good to see you following this issue. I believe what was in your news release was from you and not some PR written release.
Whatever happened at DSR between you and Spencer was your decision and I don't believe anyone should question that decision. If I were fired from a job for violating my companies rules and both me and the company agreed not to let the reason out for everyone to know it's our agreement and nobody else's business. I have seen people fired, and fired people, for reason but because the company doesn't want to ruin the person from finding another job will not disclose the reason.
Your reason for firing him is totally yours and not disclosing the reason is also totally yours. There should be no criticism about how you handled whatever caused him to be fired.

Don, I hope this doesn't come out sounding wrong or opportunist, but if you would consider The Greek as a capable TF driver to fill a vacant seat? We all would love to see him get a national event win and , with enough 5 Hour Energy drinks in him, I believe he can be quicker on the tree....;)

Whoah! Virgil. Not so sure that's a good idea man. Cell phone number I mean.

Seriously, I'd rethink that.

Mayhaps one of the mods can edit Virgil's post and then help them hook up?
