Remember when??? (7 Viewers)

This picture from one of the last IHRA races tells it all. The races were not sustainable anyway without fans that paid to watch. Look at how empty the starting line stands are.

Guess you've never seen the stands at a PDRA race.

No, I haven't, but I do know that stands are pretty empty at NHRA's LODRS points races quite often, but we are talking Top Fuel nitro racing which is what should bring the fans in, along with nitro Funny Car, and if they can't generate fan attendance, then the $$ #'s are not gonna work.

If we had never said anything, perhaps it all would have gone according to plan.

My guess is that Elon read our negative comments and we convinced him to cancel the 10 years of funding.

Multi-million dollar construction contracts, totally unrelated to anything racing, were cancelled due to comments on a (an essentially) non-related to the construction project bulletin board???

Hmm, I think not. I'm willing to wager that Mr. Musk doesn't read this board and couldn't care less what any of us think. And neither does his AI bot that reads things for him.

Jim’s post was a sarcastic post related to Ken’s post at 9:06 Friday night.

I’ll admit I was wrong, and was wrong about Darryl. I wanted to see it work, and I have a lot of friends who were racing the Nitro series who believed it would.
It’s the ones taking a victory lap that they were right that kills me. We all had our doubts, but some of us attended the races, wanted to see it succeed even if we felt the path was not sustainable. We chose the support path rather than the sit at home and be negative path. It’s so much easier to bet on failure than success, and to pound your chest because you guessed the correct outcome shows character. You may have had nothing to do with the failure, but taking a victory lap because you called it is pathetic. I can guarantee there is not a one of you on here that would walk up to Lex Joon, Del Worsham, Terry Haddock, Scott Palmer, the list goes on and on, and tell them to their face how right you were and how stupid they were for supporting it and believing in it!

It's far from taking a victory lap its understanding that this con men set this sport back. It will be dam near impossible to have a viable second series with what he did. At Epping I asked del point blank if he thought it was sustainable and he shrugged his shoulders. You can have doubts and express them and thats not being negative its the opposite. You see the train coming off the tracks you better yell and scream to alert them. Thats what many of us did and burying a head in the sand and praying it will work out wasnt gonna do it.

There can still be a viable second series but it will not be IHRA in the way Cuttell tried to do it. A second series would have to be built on a solid foundation and would have to grow according to a sustainable plan. It won't happen overnight, but it is possible.

You will need major outside investment and thats going to be very hard to get with the current financial landscape then add all the lovely pr darryl gave the sport.

Congrats to all of you on your 20/20 hindsight.

I have been in the business a long time. When I was thinking about joining up, I looked at the numbers and the plan and knew it wasn't going to be profitable in the short term. I was also told that they had ten years of funding "In Place" and time to make it profitable. Tracks were being purchased, equipment bought, people hired, all of that made me believe the funding was there.
That's when I signed on.

Any of my expenses were always approved, my invoices always promtly paid. A lot of money was being spent, and again that led me to believe that the funding was there.

After I quit the next group came in, sharp guys like Woody who knew all sides of the game and they put on events, got cars on track, and everybody got paid. I saw no reason to doubt the money was there. Was the company making money? No. But with a ten year plan, you don't have to show a profit the first 6 months.

They were losing money at every event, but the races were running smoother, participation was climbing, there was building momentum that would hopefully start to generate more gate and sponsor revenue. Things were heading in a positive direction.

Then it crashed. Because the funding wasn't there all along. But nobody actually knew that until it crashed.
