PBIR Car Count

I'd go to testing if they ever had it at RPR in Baytown, which would understandably never happen.

One of the things I remember most about all of the test sessions at LVMS have nothing to do with racing at all. It was the $100 bills clearcoated on the hood of Mike Knowles '63 Corvette Pro Mod. I happened to pass by his pit coincidentally in the Oct 2013 fall event at LVMS and discovered he did it again to a '67 Mustang Pro Mod with a mob theme. Guy has a collection of beautiful cars.

Mark,
I remember going by Butch Blairs shop and he was putting together a new combo for the set back blower. Pistons at different heights etc. I told a friend of mine we need to be at the patch when he fired that thing up, cause it was going to blow up big time.
We parked and went straight towards the car, we didn't quite make it when, boooom. It blew up. A rod and piston hit the ground right by Butch's foot bounced up and hit his the trailer. Another rod flew out and put a hole right in the side of Whit Bazemores brand new trailer.
Whit came flying out and was so mad that his first brand new trailer ever, already had a hole in the side and he hadn't even got to the first race.
The Bud warmup was great times. New paint, new combos, new ideas when you could do that.

Not sure I understand why any team would go to PBIR to test. Seems like it would be more effective to test at Phoenix then go on to Pomona. Less expensive and closer to the conditions they will experience once the season starts.

Becasue Phoenix was dump and you never knew what you were going to get for a track when you got there. Plus they regulated run times a lot of the time. PBIR was prepped good (too good at times) and you can drag it up and run whenever you want.

@Troy, I remember back in the early 90s they'd have close to 40 nitro cars testing. Hell even all the leakers used to test!
Yeah, the Bakersfield warm-up was great! Used to drive over from Ventura when I lived there and there were a ton of fuel cars testing. I remember in `96 spending almost the whole day Saturday in Blaine Johnsons pit, and them telling us they were going win the Winternationals the next weekend (they won the`95 Finals). Sure enough he beat Connie in the final. Surreal to think back on that now.

Just read that Dave Connolly ran a 3.769 at 318.92..........nice for only having a few runs under his belt ever!!

Spencer was going 293 at 660'. This morning so far Schumacher ran a 3.74, everything else this morning has been shake and smoke.
