Just heard this on the NASCAR broadcast:

What other major professional sport allows men and women to compete head-to-head for the same prize?

Ugh...

I was watching the coverage and heard that too.......I had to rewind it to make sure I heard them correctly!!

Wow, you beat me to it... . Like I've always said, tell me about about women that actually WIN races. What a bunch of BS!

Yeah, I've never understood the hoopla surrounding Danica. One win in her career and wasn't that largely due to the rest of the field taking on fuel but she was able to stay out? Just sad that the Force girls, Erica, and Alexis don't get one iota of the attention.

Sorry, but the fault lays squarely on the lap of the NHRA... The ability of the marketing department to make it known that professional women have been doing that exact thing for DECADES is sad. And the big check Compton and Co. get should REQUIRE them to step up and rebutt that statement loud and clear.

Comparing NHRA to NASCAR is like comparing high school sports to professional sports. NHRA is big league in our field of vision but not so much to others. Say drag racing and most will visualize guys with greasy T-shirts and a cigarette hanging out of their mouth. Not saying NHRA can't change that image but drag racing has many things that don't lend itself to prime TV.

and when someone says ..NASCAR a lot of people still think of fat losers in wife beaters...drinking beer waiting for the big crash!

Those people don't matter because thay are never going to watch motorsports of any kind. What drag racing doesn't attract is the people who like cars enough to watch some type or motorsport but don't have to work at understanding it.

Drag racing has to many classes for the average fan to understand the difference. And I'm talking about just the pro ranks. Think about NASCAR on sunday compared to NHRA on sunday. On NASCAR you see just one type of vehicle while in NHRA there are at least three totally different types of race car. NHRA is a lot like major league baseball...3 hours to complete 15 minutes of activity.

Before you take my hide off remember that I'm a fan and former racer. JMO

The MRN Radio pre-race broadcast was talking about all the people on the starting grid and included a quote to the tune of, "NASCAR prides itself on being the most accessible sport in the country".

I chuckled.

NASCAR owns MRN Radio.

They also never mentioned what happened yesterday during the Nationwide race during today's broadcast.

You guys all need to stop getting upset over the difference in media coverage of the 2 motorsports. NASCAR has nationwide appeal to the tune of 10's of millioms of fans. NHRA not even close.

ESPN Raceday (am) lead with the NWS deal including footage. Speed lead with it on their pre-race including footage and they lead off the FOX broadcast discussing it with footage and what needs to be looked at next. Talked for quite a while about it. Fox Also broke in with Chris Meyers at like lap 25 to give an update that 5 of he fans admitted to the hospital were realeased at noon. Also stressed that all would be ok, no life threatening danger.

I don't think they are hiding anything.

Seriously simple solution. A lime green GoDaddy.com Pro Stock Camaro. Kurt Busch did a one off with Allen Johnson Racing. Maybe the Summit boys can bring an extra car. Danica v Erica would bring NHRA to the forefront. oh wait . thats 2 girls that would whoop up on Greg! :D

Nascar also had every video shot from the stands of the big crash on Saturday YANKED from YouTube....due to the rule that they own EVERYTHING that happens during a race. Controlling their image is paramount to them. I saw the only vid left before they scrubbed Youtube and it was shocking. Maybe this link will work...

NASCAR Nationwide 2013 Drive 4 COPD 300 Finish Live spectator View - Kyle Larson Airborne Crash [HD] - YouTube

I stopped paying attention to Nascar after the cars were switched to the COT (all the same car) and after hearing their disclaimer after each telecast that we have no rights to tape their show, that they own and rule everything with an iron fist...

The NHRA is the most accessible, fan friendly motorsport out there

Bring a car out that people recognize like Dave Mandela's restored 77' Shirley Muldowney world championship winning Top Fuel car , and you get another perspective entirely. Everyone knows who these people are everywhere you go, don't kid yourself.

Its the new kids we need to be concerned with bringing in, not the old died in the wool fans, they will come anyway, its the kids, and kids are different today, you need to get they're attention Danica does that.

I think NHRA does a fine job promoting the Force girls, Alexa, and Erica and all the women who have raced decades before them.
In fact I think they go a little overboard at times, but the sport does need to get a little overcenter at times to get attention, Nascar knows that, so does NHRA.

And yet when I say the same thing about NASCAR "fans" just watching the races to see if there's going to be a wreck, I get jumped on.

It's kind of like Hockey: Many of those "fans" just tune to see if there is going to be a fist fight. Which is why the NHL never had a big time TV contract or anything.

Of course, it worked for NASCAR way back in the '80's when people saw those two hillbillies get out of their cars and start fisticuffs, and said "This is cool I'm going to start tuning in for sure."

Drag racing fans are the "true" fans, we just want to see good racing. ;)

That is a nice car after Dave restored it.

Cannot understand the whole Danica thing. The Force girls are way more prettier and WAY more successful. And they go 100 MPH faster. Not to mention Alexis, Leah and Erica.

Plenty more before them too! Even the little Aussie girl Rachelle Splatt. The first female to go 300.

The NHRA would never have footage yanked off of YouTube.

The local TV stations all have links to raw footage from the stands. The speedway did a fantastic job of dealing with issues on Saturday. They reacted to the injured fans quicker than they usually do injured drivers.

I don't understand the animosity towards NASCAR that a lot of people here have. I am a motorsports fan first and foremost. Drag racing is my first love, but I enjoy almost all motorsports. Racing is racing, in all forms . It is all difficult, expensive and fun to watch.

Making fun of NASCAR and their fans will never do anything to benefit the NHRA.
