NHRA cracks down on Street Outlaws participants

I have to admit, I enjoy the show, the cars are badass and different. The "race nights" are obviously held in a controlled environment.If you got rid of the occasional "test hits" where they are supposedly dodging the police, and are actually a very small percentage of the show's content, it would really take the focus off of illegal street racing activity. Or have the races at a track with no tree, timers, or track prep. The show would be every bit as good.

I watched one episode, and it's the same staged Reality crap just like everything else!

Oh for sure some of it is, but these guys are all in when it comes to their cars, and I believe the competition is real between them.

People have been killed by a baseball bat in a baseball game.

We all know spectators may be injured or killed at sanctioned motorsports events but
If he was at a drag racing facility he would probably have only hit the K rail and damaged his car.
There is video out there.

I believe the answer to that question is yes. Phoenix 2010 (?) comes to mind.

Yup, it can happen anywhere, but at least at sanctioned events they try to make it safe, street racing not so much if any.

Great show last night. A lot of high tech stuff going into their race cars no doubt. And fun to watch too.

It's a shame Glendora can't find a way to embrace that.

exactly, we have lost both spectators and drivers at tracks, so what's their point

Like I posted before, dodging the police is such a small part of the show, I don't believe that's what drives the ratings. If they changed the premise of the show to a track based, grudge race format, would it be any less popular? Flashlight start, no timers, no track prep, but still compete to be on the "list", have "cash days" etc. Maybe this is where the NHRA could capitalize and reinforce their comittment to safety. I enjoy the characters, the cars, the competition, if they did it on a track I would obviously still watch.

Could not agree more. As soon as a smart lawyer starts claiming that this or that street racing death was instigated by this show watch how quickly it all comes to a stop. There is absolutely no reason the NHRA should give any legitimacy to these guys. If show was run on a strip it would be a whole different deal. Want to hold an NHRA comp license? Stay away.

Jay, Im willing to bet Far more drivers and or spectators have been killed from Racing on the street as opposed to the track!

I'll honest with you guys. I tried watching the show a couple of times, and couldn't stand it. I thought it was the most trumped up fake nonsense I'd ever seen. I wasn't the greatest fan of "Pinks" either. I DID like "Pinks All Out" which didn't "feature" the hokey "negotiations."
