NHRA cracks down on Street Outlaws participants

I agree that NHRA has to take that stand. However, I love Street Outlaws and got to meet Big Chief and Shawn at the races. They were really cool guys and enjoy racing and fixing up cars like we all do. I wish I had more $$ cause the show makes me want to build a car and drag it over to Oklahoma! Just take your NHRA Competition Number and stickers off the window if you are on the show and there won't be a problem...

I had lunch today with several former and current drag racers. Some have competed at the highest levels of nitro or crewed on nitro cars although not recently. Others currently compete in brackets and or top dragster. Two are involved with the street outlaw show on a limited basis and thought and no one with the show would care. Almost to a man they laughed at NHRA writing that letter with it's threats. The general consensus was that it is a less than stellar move on the part of NHRA and they came across poorly and looked very weak
FB is taking them apart over this. They should do damage control ASAP.

What I don't get is why Glendora didn't pressure the "fast and the furious" producers as well. Those movies promote street racing in a dangerous and reckless manner much more than street outlaws. Thoughts?

KINDA MATTERS WHO U ARE IF U GET PUNISHED
tony my point was if it was any of the big 3 nhra wuld hav turned a blind eye especially force , if big three sponsors wanted any of them on the show in some form Compton wuld hav been wettin his pants just for the publicity not sure its not wat this is about anyway

Deadliest Catch is the best show on Discovery channel. That Schmidt is for real !! PS The race day track is dangerous , no guardrail and telephone/power poles near the track with several cars spinning out and sliding through the weeds. Not Good . Just my 2 cents.

PSS I was watching once where they went to a drag strip to test ...HUH ? Are they running 1/8 mile because when you watch them race ,all the camera angles and replays it looks like they're at Bonneville or sumpin. Anyone ???

I watch this show like a maniac.. Why I don't know ,but it seems the turbo cars are starting to kick the nitrous boys arses. But in 1/8 mile and the screet hard to finger owt. Take they junk to tha track. But I guess they're not (street ) anymore. I cant believe I watch that show ,but there is nothing else on TV on Monday nite

Scott, I think the difference here is that there are participants involved that are not only licensed NHRA competitors, but they also displayed NHRA decals and competition numbers on their race cars while competing in a supposedly illegal street race.

Fast & Furious also played to the Import Tuner and Drifting set, and I can tell you there is almost no crossover with NHRA competitors there (or fans for that matter).

Like Jeff said, take your comp number and stickers off and be over it, otherwise pound sand.

It really is as simple as this.

Besides, these guys may end up taking care of themselves at some point when somebody gets hurt. I just hope it's nothing serious. This isn't "street racing", period. These things are race cars, racing on the street. Cars that are strong enough to get out of control on an NHRA prepped surface, let alone what they're trying to do now. I realize they have some EMS folks there, but like someone earlier said, no guard rails, light poles close by, etc. It's a mess waiting to happen.

NHRA should be grateful for the exposure. If they don't want it FINE, put a piece of duck tape over the NHRA sticker. I bet Jeg's, Summit, Holly, Hurst, won't complain if their sticker show's on TV.
This is still AMERICA isn't it ?? What you do away from an NHRA sanctioned event is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. If a racer can make some $$ with their car, good for them.
Jeg's, Summit, Holly, and Hurst are in the performance parts business, not the promotion of safe and legal racing business.

Why is it that when one group or organization tells a person/people they cannot do something, others immediately start to wave the US Constitution? Every business from Microsoft to NHRA to the local Deli has a right to protect their brand. This is simply about that. Nothing else. Too much laughable conservative BS.

You don't think that if there was a fatal wreck during the filming of the show (god forbid) and the victim was known as a licensed NHRA racer with NHRA stickers and numbers on their car that this wouldn't become another grossly publicized black eye for NHRA? Do you think somebody would name NHRA in the almost certain lawsuit that would arise? Like myself, Tony and others have said earlier in this thread ...

It is very easy to verify those competition numbers and who owns them. Its not like this was some which hunt. Its a couple of keystrokes. Some got busted, end of deal.

Like the Troy Critchley accident in 2007.

I bet NASCAR didn't love all it's mentions that went alongside the Tony Stewart accident last year, either.
