Leave it to Alan to "possibly" mislead everyone. Yes I have seen over 340 MPH in Vegas many times. those beautiful JETS flying around the track are going 340 plus.

And speaking of JETS, I see on today's schedule there is a jet dragster that is supposed to make a pass late this afternoon. Maybe Alan knew that all along? : )
As I recall though, while the jets put on a really fine show, I don't think their speeds are as high as our present-day Top Fuel dragsters. I'm sure they have a governor on them in some fashion to keep their speeds down from what they could really run.
My Dad repeated that story to me many times. I suppose the trick was to only drive with a 65mph tailwind so you didn't outrun the air.I can't find it anywhere, but I was told a long time ago that folks back in the early 1900's (horseless buggy days) believed that if you somehow were able to go 65 miles per hour you would suffocate because you would be outrunning the air you could breath. Might have been Larry Sutton since it seems he was around back then.
My, how things have changed.
300mph is about it for the jets. They simply don't have numbers down low like wheel-driven nitro cars do. But if you're not ahead of a jet in your fuel dragster at the 660 for some reason, you're likely to get beat. Typical for jets; they've got a pretty good back half.
The rocket stuff was crazy. Sammy Miller ran 3.56/386 at Santa Pod 37 years ago.

Sunday is probably the day. Will be high of 64 degrees.
30-40mph north winds and blowing dust will present a challenge to every racer at that track. That's what they're predicting.
