Well I'm sure you've noticed that the cars no longer create billows of smoke on burnouts like in years past. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Robert Hight said that Goodyear had gone to a synthetic rubber compound a few years ago. And while the tires are obviously getting the job done, they just don't create the same amount of smoke as they used to.
Thank You! As to the end of long smokey burnouts being a thing of the past, I have heard mention that they affected the wear of the clutch and possibly the tune up. Thesemcrew chiefs like consistant conditions of all things and those crowd pleasing huge burnouts are contrary to that.

I clicked on this thread expecting a discussion about Mopar engines.

I was disappointed.
The 340 Mopar is my absolute favorite small block. I’ve had a couple different 340 cars.
But, if we were going to talk about Mopar engines, there would have to be 1.5 times as many threads about GM engines.

Back in the day.... Austin Coil had a "special secret" tune up for Force's 1/2 track burnouts. Way different rubber and it served no other purpose other than to put on a show for the fans. And then the Wizard would stomp the competition with unbelievably consistent runs. IMHO Austin was the best nitro crew chief "back in the day". Glad I was there cause those days are gone. It WAS fun, sorry you young guys missed it.

Ron Capps went 339.28 at Maple Grove
Don't recall that one; thanks. So if 339.28 happened with stood-up headers then I guess 340 really isn't out of the question if all the planets are in alignment. I've witnessed a couple of high 338s (Force, Hight) in spectacular conditions at the Texas Motorplex since they banned the semi-weedburners.

The date on the video is 2021, but it was actually 2019 at the grove.
