Doug, Leah and Steve are all within ‘little points’ territory so their ability to go for it in qualifying will likely be impacted by that. Not sure if they would go for it in any Q round if it’s a risk to another 1 to 3 points? Brittany on the other hand, is further out and can risk more I think. A point or two doesn’t do it for her. What say you all on strategy?

there's not enough prize money in nhra professional drag racing to be concerned about the little points, any points, or potential championships.
when the track is killer and the potential to break a big barrier is on the line, they will all go for it if the conditions are rite.

Won't matter if someone hits 340 since 'little points' aren't awarded based on top speed. Still, it'll be cool as all hell for the first person to ring the 340 bell.

Most likely "the final frontier" so I can see someone going for it.

ET records are meaningless outside of the drag racing universe. Someone doesn't have to be a car person to comprehend that 340 mph is fast.

Yep. It's more about bragging rights, stated in a way I can't say on a public forum. Who wouldn't want to be the first at something like this?

Maybe we can see a 340 at Pomona! I am thinking most fuel drivers would be ok with 299 at Pomona. Fore!

Brittany or Salinas have nothing to loose and cars that can do it. The big 3 have to be a little more careful. If it comes down to a final between two of them you might see it then.

You are right 299 at Pomona would be safe with carbon fiber brakes with a shut failure. I had a few shut failures at Pomona, damn that place is short. 340 MPH and a failure at Pomona they better have spare catch net's and or extra shorts for the drivers.

I just believe that 337 and 338 have become so common that 340 is inevitable, and Vegas is known for big speed. A little altitude, thinner air, less drag and a Great surface.

The forecast this weekend seems like the "Perfect Storm" for this to happen. And if I'm wrong? I will be here Monday and own it. But I didn't want to come here Monday and say "I knew it was going to happen" after the fact. So, I'm putting it out there.

You mean a big uh-huh contest, Randy? :D

Well, it won't be Clay Millcan. Jim-O prefers hot weather for some odd reason, for Clay to "stomp on that loud pedal."

I was curious and went back and looked at the weather when Brittany set the speed record in 2019 and when she went 338 in last year's 4-wide final

2019:4:36 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 7 percent, barometer 28.02 inches, adjusted altitude 3,397 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.
She sets the track E.T. record and the National speed record. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.827 sec., 330ft-2.083, 660ft-2.944/295.66 mph. 3.659-338.18

2022:Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 29.72 inches, adjusted altitude 4,078 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.
60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.128, 660ft-2.994/293.54 mph 3.718-338.00

Friday and Saturday are going to be very close to what it was back in 2019. Sunday looks like its going to be candyland as long as the sun is out and puts a little heat into the track. The only thing that concerns me about cool conditions in Vegas is that it generally means that its pretty windy out there. Hopefully everyone stays straight and true especially the sportsman sessions that look like might go into the evening on Friday.

Odds are, duh, it will happen too a team that runs earlier than someone who is final pair. I hope you see 300mph @ the 660' along with that 340 ... Wish I could watch it but the stars didn't align that way this weekend, I'll follow along along with Live Timing and miss the call ...

Have Fun ~

Did FC receive this same rev change? I can barely read on this phone. Not much sleep or rest the last few weeks. And I just read 65 posts. If so my money is on Hight. Robert Hight. But it will be Tasca because I don't want it to be.
