Jet Car Question

Excuse my ignorance, but if you never ask you never know. What is involved in stopping a jet car after a run? Does the engine itself play a role? From what I've read you can't get on the brakes very much or it will throw you into the wall. Other than the obvious parachutes, what is the procedure? I watched a few run on a track recently with a rather short shut off area which got me to wondering. Thanks in advance for educating me.

Parachutes and 4 wheel brakes. Engine is only thrust and not connected to the wheels at all and no thrust reversers that I've seen. These are usually turbines from a helicopter.
