for most of the year fsn1 or fsn2 have done a great job of providing a re-air same evening as the live afternoon finals. for those of us unable to park in front of a tv in the middle of the afternoon, it provides a great way to stay away from the internet for a few hours and watch the race.......yesterday while at work i went on nhra.com and noticed the first re-air was this morning
around 2:30 or3:00am start time.......and then anther one again tonite i think (10/16)......sorry, am not going to stay away from the internet for over 24 hours.....saw results of entire race on drc in about 5 minutes......noticed all the first round smokefests and a few upsets; would have been a good race to watch. no neilsen point from my household this weekend. noticed Q show was

I'd pay an extra $40 a month if they'd just bring back Dunn. Listening to T-Ped has gotten to be more than I can take anymore. Yesterday I was watching him give the blow-by-blow of the Capco crash and hear him say he saw the blower belt get thrown off during the blower explosion which had in turn caused the cut tire, two frames later, there was the belt, happily spinning away on a perfectly good blower, right before it too blew up. It's been long enough that you can't really call him inexperienced, maybe he just sucks and FS1 needs to look elsewhere.

I thought that was just me? As I'm watching the replay, I was a bit confused or impressed with the animated blower belt that the FOX/NHRA production team put on to animate what it does.

If not Mike Dunn, Bring that Tom guy that did the announcing for Jonnie Lindberg/Tim Wilkerson, I'm starting to think that the counter person at PepBoys knows more than Tony does. Trans Brake in a pro Stock car? I could go on and on...... Dave, don't get me started, BTW nice glasses! They hide your missing eyebrows from that BBQ mishap while lighting the grill.

I was watching and saw the blower spinning as he was saying that too....
I would pay the 40 bucks to have Alan Reinhart do the TV announcing......

did catch re-air last nite......was a great race to watch. the motorplex race has always been really good for many years,
and not the just the pros, but the other classes which have been discussed in other threads......a 4-day race with stock
and super stock class trophies. elims start friday early and it doesn't let up till sunday afternoon

IMO two years in and i still think it's a loss to not have m. dunn in the booth.

I thik Tony is doing a fine job, rief too. I appreciate the many hours of coverage we get today, I still remember getting 40 minutes a year, that's right, a year.
What aggravates is constant explanations of " what is a funny car" what is a dragster. Also every show explains a holeshot. Quit treating us like first time viewers. It's an insult to the fans. I know they are forced to say this, so I can't hold it against the guys.
Also very much against the live coverage.

Disagree with you 100% on the explanations and education during the broadcast. NASCAR does very similar things. IMO, they are necessary. Yes, a seasoned veteran finds it boring and dull. However, they will keep watching because they know what's going on and how things work because they are interested in the racing and the outcomes.

Switch gears, if you are new to NHRA Drag Racing and watching broadcasts for the first time, are you going to stick around and watch if you just feel overwhelmed, confused, and do not understand why a FC does this, why TF does that, how the countdown works, etc. Most likely you will tune out and leave.

I don't understand how many complain because the sports fan base isn't growing and NHRA needs to do more. But as soon as NHRA / FOX do things to cater to the "new" crowd, the same complaining group kicks up again and makes it about themselves with statements like "quit treating us like first time viewers". That is such a miopic viewpoint. Most seem to want something to positively change, but you want NHRA to solely own it without it being at the "experts" expense (knowledge and experience) or inconvenience. Very narrow minded if you ask me.

I have yet to hear the NFL explain a football is 12 in. long, 8 in around, & inflated to between 10 to 14 pounds per square inch. Or the shotgun, or flee flicker. What I'm saying is I feel in an attempt to gain a few new fans, they are alienating their fan base.. You don't have to completely understand a sport to enjoy watching it.
If the "first timer" is interested they will find out the answers to their questions.
I understand your points, I just don't agree with NHRA's approach to win new fans.

Bad comparison, IMHO. EVERYONE in America knows football basics. Hell, one of my sons knows about football, yet he still can't stand watching it.

They always explain the basics for the drag boats over on MAV TV. Every show, Alan explain what's a T/F Hydro, or an alcohol flat bottom. Every show.

I think some of you guys need to use the same selective listening we use on our wives...

Exactly David !! When NHRA racing has the fan base that mimics any stick and ball sport, Paul would have a better argument. Those sports never, ever have to "recruit" new fans.
