I am truly saddened by this tragic news. Tonight I pray for Eric's extended family - and for all of our competitors in this great sport which we love so very much. May his love of life and passion for racing be an inspiration to all generations to come. Tonight, hug your kids. Tell the ones you love that you love them. And give thanks to God for what you have.

We will never forget you, Eric.

I can just see Eric and Darrell at the staging line right now, ready to blast off down the heavenly track. I just called my son to give him the news and he started crying. I was crying right along with him. It is always so sad when a bright star goes out way too fast.:(

"Out of Sorrow" by Philip W. Williams
<Pain and despair are threads that run through us as we move through our journey of bereavement.
In pain and despair we can echo the words of the old spiritual, "Nobody knows the trouble I've seen. Nobody knows my sorrow." We may have been moving through our kourney slowly, doing well, when sudddenly the reality of our loss, this death, hits again! There is no going back, no recapturing or retrieving what was lost. Our loved one is gone. The pain invades and grips, and the fullness we were beginning to feel seeps out. Emtiness takes over. The wound opens wide and we despair. It's as if all life stops again.
One does not have to be married 64 years to feel the pain and despair of death. It is not time, but our closeness to our loved one that increases our vulnerability and opens us to deeper pain and despair. Yet when we confront our pain and despair and begin to accept the loss, surrendering ourselves to God in our powerlessness, then pain and despair can give way to hope. The unwanted pain can be accepted and transformed. When we accept our pain as our own, suffering can grow into compassion. It's as if the heart opens, and out of sorrow come warmth and joy.>

The life and death of each of us has influence on others: "If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord" (Romans 14:8)

Eric died and I am sad. But Eric lived too. He lived life more than most 100 people gracing this earth do combined. He lived life at 300 m.p.h. +.
He was always willing to smile and share with fans and I experienced this when he reached over the spectator ribbon and tapped my blonde 9 yr. old little girl on the shoulder and said "Hey Cutie".
He died because he lived, and we will too...

I will miss him greatly.....

What a sad day. My deepest condolences to Eric's family and the Force team.
:(

I've been checking the 'mater every few hours all week. Hoping I wouldn't see this thread. It's just so wrong. I'm so sorry.

Being at a disabled School I lost alot of very good friends through terminal illness.

The good ones always go first.

At least he died what he loved doing and didn't suffer.

cheers

James

I don't know what to say. I feel about the same as everybody that's posted here, which is pretty bad. RIP Eric, you will be missed.

This is one of my favorite photos that I have taken from over the years. It was taken the same day he won his first national event. What a happy day.

No! This is not how it was supposed to happen! Eric was going to recover and be back with us!
God, why do you take the good ones?!
Damn I am so angry and sad! He was such a great kid!
We were richer for having him the short time we did.
I am sad for Mr. Medlen and his family, for JFR, for his friends, and all of us 'maters and drag race fans.

Eric thank you for the time you graced us here on this Earth.
