I just went back and read my flights for Pomona on SW Air, and the Fare had gotten $27 cheaper than when I first booked. So I changed my flights using the same flight #'s and it gave me the credit!

Yeah, SWA's pretty good about that kind of stuff, as are the other discounters like AirTran, Jet Blue & Spirit. I speak from experience when I say fare structuring is a very complicated process - don't even try to figure out the way the so called "Legacy" carriers do it.

I fly United almost exclusively and among the legacy carriers, they may be the only one that will re-ticket you without a change fee if the fare goes down. They won't give you a cash refund, but they issue a voucher for future travel and I have gotten $500 to $600 in vouchers in the last year and a half.

Yapta.com is a very useful site for tracking fares, both those that you've already purchased, as well itineraries that you're looking at. It only works with certain airlines, but if you fly those airlines, it's a very valuable tool.

Ah Southwest,,,,,, an airline that actually understands the term "Customer Service."
Wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that they're a profitable airline?

How much is your airfare, Joe? Cheapest I`ve seen to Ontario is $360 r/t! (I refuse to go thru LAX anymore).

Thanks for the link Dave.

I fly United mostly too.

I'd fly Southwest a little more it wasn't for the turn and burn when leaving Midway(Chicago) and the barnstorming over houses when landing. Just a little too much for me.

Now, seeing that my son's father is a LONG TERM Southwest employee and deep into the profit sharing...I view any SW ticket purchase as an investment in my kiddo's future! :D

SW is great, but I've been on a couple of flights where you would swear the pilot used to be a Naval Aviator.. Hard, fast landings with a lot of reverser and brakes..

Hey Captain, the runway is MUCH longer then it was in your past life..

Although there was one flight out of BWI where we pulled onto the runway as another SW flight was taking off.. I was waiting for the plane to stop, but guess what.. Just kept rolling, and took off right behind the other plane.. Scared the ****e out of me, and all I could think of was TWA 800 and the wake vortexes that apparently brought it down...

I guess any flight that I am still here to talk about is a good one!

Pansy.....:D

That's the best part for us up front. MDW can be fun.

My peeve about Southwest is no seat assignments. It's fine when the airplane isn't too full, but most of the time when I'm booked on them I check in close to departure (don't have a choice on the one) and end up getting on the airplane close to the end of boarding stuck in a middle seat with no overhead space left.

Brian, sometimes those put 'em down and get 'em stopped landings are what you need to do. If the runway is short, I'll usually make you eat the seat in front of you as I get the pig stopped. If the runway is contaminated (wet, snow, ice, etc..), I'm going to plant it, and use lots of reverse with a little braking.

Just depends on the situation. Then again, I might be having a bad day or a crappy landing streak.:o

That's the best thing about Midway! Full throttle on take off and it looks like you're going to land on a street instead of a runway. Very exciting! The rest of the ride is boring...I usually sleep through the rest of the flight. Something about the steady jet noise just knocks me out.

I'll take Midway over O'Hare any day! I've flown out of O'Hare twice getting delayed over 3 hrs each! Plus at Midway your 5 minutes from Luggage and the Shuttles, O'Hare's a Pain in the ass to get in and out of! No Thanks!

I agree Joe. My only experience in/out of O'Hare resulted in a 1 hour delay getting there and a 15 hour delay leaving (on that one, I could have just driven back to Minneapolis in about 7 hours). I'll avoid O'Hare whenever possible in the future.

Unfortunately, when there is a delay at O'Hare, it effects everyone. I've been delayed twice out of Cleveland flying Continental because the flight I take originates from O'Hare.

You would think with TWO major airports in the Chicago area it wouldn't be a problem.

One thing I might add is, the Pomona flt. was the only one I saw that was actually cheaper! My Vegas 2 and Phoenix for the Boat drags were actually about $7-10 higher. Why Pomona's just happen to be cheaper is anybody's guess, but I'm glad I looked anyway!;)

Beancounters RULE! :D

As many of you probably know, Southwest hedged their jetfuel purchase contracts some time ago which gives them a continuing (and substantial) cost advantage over most of the other airline companies.

Not to cause political drift on this topic but, here's an example where speculation (read- free enterprise) worked well for Southwest shareholders and the ticket buyer. They had valid reasons to think the price would go up (DOH!) and they acted to contain/minimize that risk.

(BTW: It could have gone UGLY AGAINST them too.)

I travel every week for work, and since the other airlines started with all of the extra charges, we fly Southwest almost exclusively. In almost no time at all I have earned 4 free tickets and am now an "A Lister", meaning I get an A boarding pass no matter what. Plus, Southwest sends me lots of drink tickets in the mail!!

I like Midway, I am in there at least twice a month. I usually hit the Haray Caray's there for a snack and a brew.

My favorite Southwest stop is Burbank ... you get your luggage on outdoor carousels. And you walk off and on the plane from the front and back. And the best cheeseburgers anywhere in the terminal at "Cheezburger Cheezburger".

It went from $335 to $308! That's the HIGHEST I've ever paid to go to Pomona!
Southwest is over $400 now! I should`ve booked on Delta last week, it was ONLY $302. It`s $360 today. I`m hanging tight for awhile hoping it comes down. Plus side, I got me and Antones Pomona race tix today.
