What has PS done to help sportsman racers ? And how would that be the death of N.H.R.A.?
Well first of all PS came from sportsman ranks, and second sportsman racers alone spend upwards of 175,000 just for entry alone plus a lot are running multible classes a1verage 350 for each class less gold cards that a lot of take for NHRA . If it wasnt for sportsman racers they would not survive.

That goes double for me Mike

Jesse ... as someone said earlier, what have the PS racers done for the overall good of sportsman racing? Let me answer .... NOTHING! You could probably count on one set of hands and feet the number of sportsman racers who give two $hit$ about PS. Even the door car sportsman guys do not care.

Why would thousands of racers with no direct relationship or benefit put there racing interests on the line in the name of about 25 professional racers in a struggling class with a tiny fan base? Your post doesn't make any sense.

Does anyone have any idea of what the counter proposal consisted of?

Reading through these comments all season on here and elsewhere online, it's almost like peoplr are trying to help shove Pro Stock out the door. Top Fuel is not any better off with attendance, we need to be careful of the sport crumbling around us.
The sport will survive, the big show may become the equivalent of a monster truck show though.

I wasnt trying to raise your blood pressure, the conversation started as what would help PS if they didnt show for race and my point was sportsman backing would help them, i never said sportsman racers would want too. It was about the strengh sportsman racing has in NHRA and my feeling is they have a lot.

My feeling about PS is it has been a great ambassador for Drag Racing and NHRA. I believe they have a place in this sport and deserve the right to be brought back to a level that would reach the fans and other investors. The Graham Light quick fix was never the answer. They need to listen to the racers and car owners , they know what needs to be done.

I'm fine ... I just don't think anybody sees your correlation. My point was sportsman guys could not care less if there is ever another PS race. Sportsman level National, Divisional and Association events will go on with or without PS.

Its just a difference of opinion. I think all the racers are looking what happens to PS. Sportsman dont want to see any racer ran over, and the treatment towards Sportman racers hasnt been that great either. I dont know one racer that wants PS thrown out.

i was hoping there was some info on the counter proposal in this thread.. has anyone heard anything?

Just to put it into perspective from the sportsman ranks....

Forget the cost of the car and support equipment.
My only NHRA national event cost me $1700 to be there and race. The payout to win was $1200 + contingencies (probably another $3500 if stickered properly). How is that sustainable? Luckily I never raced for money :). The reason these guys run multiple cars is to get more hits at the tree and increase their chances of winning $$$. There is ZERO money in NHRA to do this as a "professional" sportsman racer...ask Fletcher & Rampy where they'd be without corporate support.

Pro Stock, in my opinion, is the top level of pure door car racing and deserves a place to race. I am a diehard PDRA fan and would love to see them open up the rules and try to attract some of the NHRA teams, but I doubt that would happen.

Hey Pete, not to change the subject, but I think Super Street is the only true door car .90 class out there. S/C is all dragsters & S/G is all roadsters (with a few exceptions for both classes). You see real cars in S/ST. Really love watching that class run. Just my 2 cents.:)

The problem with Pro Stock has been hired drivers and rented engines... it's become like the Nitro classes.
People used to love seeing a greasy Bob Glidden win after thrashing on his own motor....now we have autograph sessions while someone else puts the cars together. The most successful PS teams are the KB's, the J&J's, the Gliddens and Johnsons....Reher Morrison and Grump. Greasy drivers in sweat filled helmets wondering if they did the right changes on their mount....

That was cool 30-40 years ago but not what fans want to see now. I pretty much lived in the RM pits and never saw Lee or Bruce greasy but i get your point.

it takes an exceptionally talented individual, who is good on the tree and a mechanical wizard. guys like Connolly, greg and perhaps KJ come to mind !!
